My angel. Flung out of space. [to Therese when they pause to look at each other during sex for the first time]
I took what you gave willingly. It's not your fault, Therese.
Tonight I think I die.
I do not like wars. They have uncertain outcomes.
I have no desire to make windows into men's souls.
Then, one night, a dragon broke into our house, finding you in the cradle. I rushed to protect you, but what I saw was proof of everything I believed. This wasn't a vicious beast, but an intelligent, gentle creature, whose soul reflected my own.
It's not his fault. You know that.
Some of us were just born different.
Dosvidanya, Dr. Jones.
And where is it you would imagine I am from, Dr. Jones?
And what I do not know, I find out.
Who do you have to sleep with around here to get a Stoli martini with a twist of lemon?
He's another version of Augie, he's a loser.
Mom said you started screaming in the street.
Anxiety, nightmares and a nervous breakdown, there's only so many traumas a person can withstand until they take to the streets and start screaming.
How does it feel?
Everybody knows I'm not a folk singer.
Do your early stuff!
The Ring brought to Gollum unnatural long life. For five hundred years it poisoned his mind. And in the gloom of Gollum's cave, it waited. Darkness crept back into the forests of the world. Rumour grew of a shadow in the east, whispers of a nameless fear, and the Ring of Power perceived… its time had now come. It abandoned Gollum.
I amar prestar aen. The world is changed. Han mathon ne nen. I feel it in the water. Han mathon ne chae. I feel it in the earth. A han noston ned 'wilith. I smell it in the air. Much that once was is lost, for none now live who remember it.
The Ring passed to Isildur, who had this one chance to destroy all evil forever. But the hearts of men are easily corrupted, and the Ring of Power has a will of its own. It betrayed Isildur to his death. And some things that should not have been forgotten, were lost. History became legend, legend became myth, and for two and a half thousand years, the Ring passed out of all knowledge.
Actually, I was sort of terrified about having this baby. And right now I'm not really scared of anything. Maybe it's my hormones.
I need to find a baby for this father.
I need to find a baby for this father.
Yeah, I think I know what you mean.
Don't be so eager to be offended. The narcissism of small differences leads to the most boring kind of conformity.
You want to dance the mask, you must service the composer. You gotta sublimate yourself, your ego, and, yes, your identity. You must, in fact, stand in front of the public and God and obliterate yourself.
It's my score! You ****, little nothing!
Oh, my giddy aunt.
God, I hate pumpkins.
Be a dear: fetch a knife and stab me in the ears.
May we have wisdom not to fear shadows in the night, and courage when the day of danger truly dawns.
We have named it Virginia, after our Virgin Queen.
"Virginia"? And when I am married, will you rename it to "Conjugia"?
My loving people. We see the sails of the enemy approaching. We hear the Spanish guns over the water. Soon now, we will meet them face-to-face. I am resolved, in the midst and heat of the battle, to live or die amongst you all. While we stand together, no invader shall pass. Let them come with the armies of Hell; they will not pass! And when this day of battle is ended, we meet again in heaven or on the field of victory.
I think we can all agree, Mowgli, that you are something the jungle has never seen before.
Say something, or I shall get bored. And when I get bored, I get hungry!
Leave the man-cub alone. He belongs with us!
This is going to sound sick, but something in me felt... entitled. You know, I've been good all my adult life. I've been a decent wife, a dutiful mother coping with Ben. This voice inside me kept saying "why shouldn't you be bad, why shouldn't you transgress? I mean, you've earned the right."
Well, that's when you should've stopped it.
I did! I told him I wouldn't teach him any more. But he refused to accept it, he just kept coming back. It began to feel like our secret, and well, secrets can be... seductive.
I hadn't been pursued like this for years... I knew it was wrong, and immoral, and completely ridiculous, but, I don't know. I just allowed it to happen.
The boy is fifteen!
But he's quite mature for his age!
Hela! Enough! You want Asgard? It's yours.
Whatever game you're playing, it won't work. You can't defeat me.
No, I know...but he can.
No!
It's come to my attention that you don't know who I am. I am Hela, Odin's firstborn, commander of the legions of Asgard, the rightful heir to the throne and the Goddess of Death. My father is dead, as are the princes. [raises her hand reassuringly] You're welcome. We were once the seat of absolute power in the cosmos. Our supremacy was unchallenged. Yet Odin stopped at the Nine Realms. Our destiny is to rule over all others. And I am here to restore that power. Kneel before me and rise into the ranks of my great conquest.
Whoever you are... whatever you've done, surrender now! Or we will show you no mercy.
Whoever I am? Did you listen to a word I said?
This is your final warning!
I thought you'd be happy to see me. [Forms her headdress] Fine.
So he's gone. That's a shame, I would have liked to have seen that.
You must be Hela. I'm Thor, son of Odin.
Really? You don't look like him.
Perhaps we can come to an arrangement?
You sound like him. Kneel.
Beg your pardon?
Kneel, before your Queen.
Oho, I don't think so. [Thor hurls Mjölnir at her, only for Hela to catch it in one hand] It's not possible!
Darling, you have no idea what's possible!
[Hela easily crushes Mjölnir's head]
You will follow them.
Yes.
You are right to help Thorin Oakenshield, but I fear this quest has set in motion forces we do not yet understand. The riddle of the Morgul-blade must be answered. Something moves in the shadows, unseen, hidden from our sight. It will not show itself, not yet...but every day it grows in strength. You must be careful. [Gandalf nods and turns to leave] Mithrandir, why the halfling?
I don't know. Saruman believes it is only great power that can hold evil in check, but that is not what I have found. I've found it is the small things; everyday deeds of ordinary folk that keeps the darkness at bay... simple acts of kindness, and love. Why Bilbo Baggins? Perhaps it is because I am afraid... and he gives me courage.
Do not be afraid, Mithrandir. You are not alone. [in Elvish] If you ever need my help, I will come.
Tell me, Gandalf, did you think these plans and schemes of yours would go unnoticed?
Unnoticed? No, I... I'm simply doing what I feel to be right.
The dragon has long been on your mind.
This is true, my lady. Smaug owes allegiance to no one, but if he should side with the Enemy... A dragon could be used to terrible effect.
What enemy? Gandalf, the Enemy is defeated. Sauron is vanquished. He can never regain his full strength.
Does it not worry you that the last of the Dwarf-rings should simply vanish along with its bearer? Of the Seven Dwarf-rings, four were consumed by dragons, two were taken by Sauron before he fell in Mordor. The fate of the last Dwarf-ring remains unknown. The ring that was borne by Thrain.
Without the Ruling Ring of Power, the Seven are no value to the Enemy. To control the other Rings, he needs the One. And that Ring was lost long, long ago. It was swept out to sea by the waters of the Anduin.
Gandalf. For four-hundred years, we have lived in peace, a hard-won, Watchful Peace.
Are we- are we at peace? Trolls have come down from the mountains, they are raiding villages, destroying farms. Orcs have attacked us on the road!
Hardly a prelude to war.
Always you must meddle, looking for trouble when none exists.
Let him speak.
There is something at work beyond the evil of Smaug. Something far more powerful. We could remain blind to it but it will not be ignoring us, that I can promise you. A sickness lies over the Greenwood. The Woodsmen who live there now call it Mirkwood and, uh, they say...
Well, don't stop now. Tell us what the Woodsmen say.
They speak of a Necromancer living in Dol Guldur, a sorcerer who could summon the dead.
That's absurd. No such power exists in this world. This "Necromancer" is nothing more than a mortal man. A conjurer dabbling in black magic.
And so I thought too, but Radagast had seen...
Radagast? Do not speak to me of Radagast the Brown. He is a foolish fellow.
Well, he's odd, I'll grant you. He lives a solitary life...
It's not that. It's his excessive consumption of mushrooms! They've addled his brain and yellowed his teeth!
You carry something. It came to you from Radagast. He found it in Dol Guldur.
Yes.
Show me.
What is that?
A relic... of Mordor.
A Morgul-blade!
Made for the Witch-king of Angmar... And buried with him. When Angmar fell, the Men of the North took his body and all that he possessed and sealed it within the High Fells of Rhudaur. Deep within the rock, they buried him. In a tomb so dark... it would never come to light.
This is not possible. A powerful spell lies upon those tombs, they cannot be opened.
What proof do we have this weapon came from Angmar's grave?
I have none.
Because there is none! Let us examine what we know: A single Orc pack has dared to cross the Bruinen, a dagger from a bygone age has been found and a human sorcerer who calls himself the Necromancer has taken up residence in a ruined fortress. It's not so very much. After all, the question of this Dwarvish company, however, troubles me deeply. I'm not convinced, Gandalf. I do not feel I can condone such a quest. If they had come to me, I might have spared them from this disappointment...
They are leaving.
Yes.
You knew. [Lindir rushes in]
My lord, the dwarves, they're gone!
The greenwood is the outlaw's friend. Now the orphan boys make us welcome. There was no tax, no tithes. Nobody rich, nobody poor. Fair shares for all at Nature's table. Many wrongs to be righted in the country of King John. Watch over us, Walter.
Between a sheriff and a bishop, I wouldn't care to judge who's the greater curse on honest English folk.
The power of the enemy is growing. Sauron will use his puppet Saruman to destroy the people of Rohan. Isengard has been unleashed. The Eye of Sauron now turns to Gondor, the last free kingdom of Men. His war on this country will come swiftly. He senses the Ring is close. The strength of the Ringbearer is failing. In his heart, Frodo begins to understand. The quest will claim his life. You know this... you have foreseen it. It is the risk we all took. In the gathering dark, the will of the Ring grows strong. It works hard now to find its way back into the hands of Men. Men, who are so easily seduced by its power. The young Captain of Gondor has but to extend his hands, take the Ring for his own and the world will fall. It is close now, so close to achieving its goal. For Sauron will have dominion of all life on this Earth, even unto the ending of the world. The time of the Elves is over. Do we leave Middle-earth to its fate? Do we let them stand alone?
