You know what's awesome? This is awesome. Just look at the men and women hanging on these walls. You, my boy, are part of a family legacy that spans centuries. You know what? Your grandfather was Mayor of Whoville, mm-hmm. And your great-grandmother, that's right, all the way down to your... Horton is a giant elephant in the sky! [everyone looks up] Don't bother looking. He's invisible. And he's the one risking his life to get Whoville, which by the way is a speck on a clover, TO SAFETY!

2 quotesHe has the nerve to call somebody a boob? I would never call somebody a boob. He's a boob. Look at you. Yuck! Look at your face...and I bet you don't look so good with a stapler in your head! [throws a stapler at a painting of the Chairman, which bounces off and hits him in the face, leaving a staple implanted on his forehead, causing him to scream in pain]
Scenes with Mayor Ned McDodd
16 scenesI don't understand. I know I heard you. It was just clean as nose on my face. (Has an idea) That's it. Maybe you can't hear me! Of course your ears must be tiny. I need to speak up! H-E-E-E-L-L-O-O-O-O!
Now some people out there, I think I know who,
may find they agree with that Sour Kangaroo.
"There can't really be people as small as a mite."
Well, there can, and there are, because Horton was right.
That single "Hello" traveled all the way down
to the speck, to the clouds, till it found a small town.
A town known as Whoville for there live the Who's,
Really happy in safe, knowing only good news,
unaware that their world was a speck on a clover,
unaware the sweet life they knew might be old. (There in the Ned's house)
The Mayor of Whoville, a man named McDodd,
who's devoted and faired and little bit odd. (The Mayor drinks his coffee, then realizes it's gone, then later forget that happened. The scene then cuts to the kitchen)
The Mayor and his wife they had children to spare.
96 daughters some here and some there. :96 girls to love. 96 girls to teach?
But the Mayor had only a few seconds for each.
Daddy. I got better than best on my Whostory test.
Ah, Whostory. I remembered well.
Sally O'Malley-McDodd: That's one of my girls. (There are two daughters. She is named Hooly younger sister and Hedy older sister)
Hedy's been using my blue hairbrush!
Hooly's been using my pink hairbrush!
Look, over there! (They both look and Mayor switched the pink & blue hairbrushes) There, all better. (They both sisters hugged at each other)
Can I please have a Whophone, dad? Everyone else has one.
Oh, really? Everyone? (Heather holds up a picture of her class, where everybody is talking away on their phones except her, looking sadly at the camera.) Oh! I will think about it.
Daddy, look! Daddy look!
(The twins have their hair tied jumping rope together swinging it in loops, when their father jumps between it's like a jump rope, before returning to his seat as the bell rings. A baby girl she is named Hanna 1 year old)
Toof!
Sally O'Malley-McDodd: It's "th" sweetheart. It's "Tooth"
In Whoville tradition, unlike yours or mine,
the Mayor's oldest is next in the Mayoral line.
And who was the oldest? To lead and stand tall?
It was JoJo, his son, the smallest Who of all.
So, JoJo, what's shaking? What's happening? What's the word? (JoJo cringes at him)
Now to you or to me, it's finally clear
that JoJo did not want his father's career. But the Mayor pressed forward completely illuded.
And JoJo just sat there in silence and lude it.
Oh, JoJo! (He rushes to Jojo)
Hey! Why this he get more time?
That's not fair!
Son! Hey!
And why didn't he speak? Well, I think the lad
was frightened if he did, he might let down his dad.
You know what's awesome? (Shows Jojo his past portraits of past Mayors) This is awesome! Just look at the men and the women hanging on these walls. You, my boy, are part of family legacy that spans centuries You know what? (Shows a portrait of his grandfather who happens to be Dr. Seuss) Your grandfather was Mayor of Whoville. And, your great grandmother, (Shows a portrait of his great grandmother, who happens to be Mona Lisa) that's right. All the way down to your... (Breaths as his chest expand and his arm rolls like a roll-up) Great, (Shows a portrait of a Who in a soviet hat) Great, (Shows a portrait of a Shakespeare-style Who) Great, (Shows a Who with a very long beard) Not so great, (Shows an ugly who in a ballerina with other ballerinas) Great, (Shows a portrait of a Who in a boxing match in black and white with a signature) Great, (Shows a portrait of a Mexican Who in a sombrero) Great, Great, Great, (shows a portrait of a fat Who eating a turkey leg with the other Who fanning on a leaf) Great, Great, Great, GREAT... (goes all the way back to the very first portrait, which is a cavemen) Grandfather! Someday, I hope to join them. Be one of the greats. I tell you, JoJo, there is nothing like being Mayor. I get to sign resolutions, approve ordinances, submit budgets, and in the Edible Parade, I'm the one sitting on top of the giant meatball. Some day, that can be you too, JoJo. Some day you'll be the one wearing the Mayoral Crest. You just... You just need to... You know what I mean? (sees Jojo walking away) Okay Good chat! I'm glad that we had this talk... that I'm continuing now by myself. Good. (Something shakes the hall as the portraits start shaking as well, before returning to the original format, much to Ned's confusion)
There. That ought to be comfy.
Nothing wrong with this, Morton. Nothing wrong with this. Just you, me and the speck, shooting the breeze. We're a club. We're a group. We can take a vote on the issues. (mock evilly) We can be a secret society that controls the balance of power in the world.
Horton.
And no one else can join, (uses his ears as a hat) unless they wear funny hats! (He laughs goofily, before sipping his drink.)
Listen, Horton!
The Chair recognizes Brother Morton.
I'm really happy you found this speck...but you might wanna keep it to yourself.
Hm? What? Why?
Well, you're talking to a clover. That doesn't look good.
You know what doesn't look good? You talking about the speck like the speck isn't even there. The speck never said anything bad about you. But, hey! Good luck with your illusion of superiority.
You know, the speck can think anything it wants about me. It's a speck.
Whoa! I see what's going on here. Morton, no matter how tight the speck and I get, the speck could never replace you. I'm only sad that I would have to explain that, at this point.
Well, that's awesome, Horton. That really helps. Just try to keep this to yourself. I'll see you later. Try.
Hey, Horton! What you got there?
What? Nothing! We're not doing anything! Do-do-dum dum dum, we're totally alone!
Who's we?
"We"? What? "We"? Did I say that? I just... oh. No, I would never say that. because that would imply that I was with someone, and not alone. (He giggles, before trying to keep his mouth shut to avoid spilling the beans about the speck, until...) Okay, seriously, you can't tell anybody! I mean it. If anybody finds out about this, it could be very, very bad. I'm not sure why.
We won't tell anyone. And if we do, we'll tell them not to tell anyone!
Perfect! Okay, so I'm taking a bath, right, cause my skin gets kind of dry and a little bit ashy.
While Horton came clean about the speck that he'd found
and how he had saved it when it nearly drowned,
(cuts to Whoville) on his morning commute and noticed things weren't quite the same on his route.
(Back in the jungle, as Horton continues his story.) But please don't blame Horton, for he didn't know that a small bump above...
...and I dove into the water like this!
... was a big bump below.
Hey, Joe, don't work too hard.
Ah, these luxury condos, they don't build themselves. (Another big bump sends everything in the air, allowing the condo building.) Hey, look at that. I guess they do build themselves.
Oh~kay, that happened.
Now, the Mayor knew it was his job to convey the unusual things that he'd noticed that day, but there was one problem. Though his will was strong...
You're late.
Thank you, Miss Yelp.
... nothing in Whoville had ever gone wrong.
We have all that we need. We need all that we've got.
We like it in Whoville. We like it a lot!
We're all very busy with the Who-Centennial coming up, so (bangs the gavel) let's bring this meeting to order. Mr. Mayor, I presume you have some good news for us.
Well, it's news. I don't know if we need to go labeling it "good" or "bad" or anything like that. The thing is, I have noticed some odd goings-on in Whoville lately.
Good "odd goings-on"?
Well, you know, tremors, clouds swirling in the sky. And it seems to me, just to be safe, we might want to consider (mumbling) postponing the Who-Centennial.
Consider what?
postponing the Who-centennial...
What?? Speak up, man!
...POSTPONING THE WHO-CENTENNIAL, ALL RIGHT?!
(Mummers and gasps of worry spread throughout the court, and the Chairman presses a smiley button his desk which puts his co-men and the mayor in a glass dome, and the onlookers relax as elevator style music plays. The enraged Chairman chases the Mayor around the dome, strangles him, and illustrates him as a donkey-like animal's behind in complete silence, much to concerned looks.)
We are about to celebrate 100 years of Whoville happiness and harmony, and you want to postpone the celebration?!
Well, what if Whoville's not safe?
Nothing ever goes wrong in Whoville. Never has, and never will, you blathering boob.
Boob...?
The Who-Centennial will proceed as planned! (the people cheered) The Mayor was merely being an idiot. It will be all smiles from now on.
Ow. Ow. That hurt!
(As the machine keeps kicking him out)
Girl, I got 15,000 friends already. (serious) What? What do you mean, it don't look like me? (Shows an old picture of her on WhoSpace, a parody of MySpace) That looks just like me; 10 years ago. (looks at her watch) Wait a minute. Hold on for one second.
(Grabs a purple drink with a liver for a label and pours it on a cup as the Mayor arrives in a air-themed elevator and slams it to stop. He later walks and grabs the cup)
Treats me like an idiot. I am not an idiot... (drinks the whole cup, then rushes to Miss Yelp) Do I look like an idiot?!
You don't want me to answer that.
I am not an idiot. (In his office, still angered about recently) Has the nerve to call me a boob? I would never call somebody a boob. He's a boob. (looks at a portrait of the Chairman) Look at you. Yuck! Look at your face. And I bet you don't look so good with a (throws his stapler at the portrait) stapler on your head!
(The stapler miss the portrait as it bounces right back at Ned, stapling him in the forehead, to which he screams in pain at the top of his lungs, loud enough for even Horton to hear)
Whoa! Who-ho-hoa!
Ow, ow, ow... yagh! Thank you, Miss Yelp.
You're welcome.
Who said that!? Back off! I'll punch you! Wagh!
Hello?
Hello?
Hellooooo?
(Back in Whoville, his speech is unintelligible due to the drain pipe. Ned ponders in confusion about this but seeing the horn in his hands, he puts it in the drain pipe and...)
Um, this is the Mayor.
The Mayor? The Mayor?! (looks to a passing bird in hysterics) I'M TALKING TO THE MAYOR!!! (the bird's nose go down and walks away) I knew it. I knew it. I knew it. I knew there was life on this speck!
"This speck?" (chuckling doubtedly) What speck?
Well, um... (leans on a tree) I don't exactly know how to tell you this, but...
Well, I hate to disagree with you, Oh, voice from the drainpipe, but I live in Whoville.
Well, then, Whoville's a speck.
Right, o- (In Whoville…) -kay, seriously, who is this? Is this Burt from accounting?
Uh, no. This is Horton. I'm an elephant.
Okayyyy... Hor-ton, fake name. Where are you?
Well, from where you standing? I guess I'm... in the sky. Which is saying something, because I've slimmed down quite a bit. I swim. You're whole world fits on a flower in my world.
Oh, man, this is even inclusion for you, Bert.
Don't believe me? Watch what happens when I put you in the shade.
This is absolutely impossible-
Light.
Dark, light, dark, light, dark, light, dark, light, dark. Light. (Back at the jungle) Don't you see?
We're in the middle of some kind of amazing cosmic convergence. Two vastly different worlds, miraculously crossing paths! Mine, COLOSSAL! Yours, miniscule. Yet somehow, we've managed to make contact.
Is everything okay down there?
I... I don't know. You tell me. You're the one holding the speck.
I'm the one holding the speck. (gasp, realizing what the Mayor said) I'm the one holding the speck! (through the horn) Don't you worry, Mr. Mayor.
Hold, please!
(He rushes to an air-filled elevator, but he got hit and fell down. Miss Yelp, on her computer, grabs an ice pack to him and he puts it on his head and later enters the elevator)
What did all of this mean? The Mayor hadn't a clue.
So, he ran to the office of Dr. Larue,
the brainiest brain on the staff at Who U.
Dr. Larue! Oh, this is crazy...!
I don't know. Hey! You know, I was just wondering if our world were, say, a tiny speck, mmm, floating through space... how would we know?
Well, why would you ask something like that?
Oh, no reason. No reason at all. I don't even remember. Yes, I do. Ah, you know what? Some guy was talking to me. Not an elephant in the sky. A guy on the ground.
There would be several ramifications.
Good ramifications?
A tiny speck?
Uh-huh, yeah. Tiny speck.
Floating around. (While Larue uses her laptop and types about the "speck", The Mayor looks at the acid and quickly hides it with a book before it sinks itself) Well, we'd have inexplicable tremors, dramatic changes in the weather, (Dr. Larue reads at a very long paper containing results) and if we didn't eventually achieve some sort of stability, our world would be... (She removes her glasses for dramatic effect) destroyed!(A kernel later becomes a popcorn)
Destroyed?! (slurred) Destroyed, Oh destroyed. Oh, trouble! (As the Mayor leaves, Dr. Larue quickly stops the acid bottle with her finger from pouring. At Mayor's office, he hangs up the telephone and rushes to Horton) Horton!
Um, no, uh, this is... uh... Benny. Horton is busy right now. (In the jungle, Horton holds his trunk to change his voice, before going back to his normal voice, chuckling.) No! I'm joking. That's me.
Oh, we're doomed.
Listen, Horton, turns out I need your help a little bit. Apparently, if that speck keeps moving around, our whole world… could be obliterated. So I need you to find us Whos a safer, more stable home… and fast.
No problem, Mr. Mayor. Let's see… (looks at a flower) Wow! That's a nice view.
Hello, is everything okay?!
(A grape falls on Horton's head. He looks to find out where the grape came from, and it was two woodpecker-like birds who are pecking a pile of grapes, taking turns trying to knock them down, causing them to fall and hit Horton, Horton then dodges 2 more, and a anteater-like creature with a vacuum-like snout of the species Nink walks by consuming flowers, nearby some termite-like insects with bladed teeth. Horton gasps in fear.)
What's going on up there?
OH NO!
THIS ENTIRE JUNGLE IS A HOUSE OF DEATH!!! (he stops panicking and looks up) Oh, wait. There's a good spot.
And it's then Horton saw at the top of Mount Nool
(the camera flies to Mount Nool's cave with a sunflower, the one that started this whole mess in the first place) a small cave that looked peaceful and quiet and cool,
where a sunflower grew proud and tall from the ground.
There, he knew every Who would be safe. Would be sound.
I found it, Mayor. The perfect place. Right up there. At the top of Mount Nool.
Mr. Mayor?
Haha, oh, shiny. Haha...
The Who-Centennial Committee is waiting for you to look over the giant meatball for the Edible Parade. Oh, and then you're due at the dentist for your Who-root canal.
You know, sticking “Who” in front of everything doesn’t make it hurt less. Just wastes time! (Miss Yelp closes the door) I don’t… wanna go. (to Horton) Listen, Horton, I gotta go. (packs most of his things in his suitcase, including his coffee and his goldfish) Apparently, there’s a problem with the giant meatball.
You just take care of that meatball, sir, and leave the freaking out to me.
So then Horton began his long, perilous trek,
determined to save the small world on the speck.
Horton was faithful and stalwart and kind.
I got you. Don't worry. I'll protect you!
He was a brave hero... at least in his mind.
We must become invisible. Travel silently. For there are forces that would seek to destroy us.
Huh?! So you think you can sneak up on me, huh?! (combat noises) It is clear that you are no match for my technique. Hey! (kicks a branch, but it snaps back and smacks his butt with an awkward shot of a red mark from below.) I see you have mastered the way of the snapping branch. Watch me tumble! (He jumps from branch to branch to the top of the tree.)
Morton Mouse, go!
You are fast, Horton, but the Kangaroo has monkeys! (Monkeys can be seen flying in from the distance.)
Hm? I will make monkeys of these monkeys. It is their destiny. (He does a Dragon Ball-style to fire a beam of energy at the monkeys.) For the clover!
Horton is the greatest hero of them all, haaaa!
(Cuts back to the same anime style) Horton and Morton: Horton! Morton! GO! (Horton runs forward, screaming, but is stopped by Morton.)
But Mount Nool is that way! (Horton felt dumb-founded for a sec.)
Ha-ha-ha! To the top of Mount Nool! As fast as lightning! Away, I go. (He starts to jumpkicks, but snaps back to reality as he trips, landing on a flower.) Oh, sorry little fellow. You'll be fine. Just think healing thoughts.
Horton, Horton! Look!
We've all got our own clovers with worlds on them!
Yeah!
Oh...
In my world, everyone's a pony, and they all eat rainbows, and poop butterflies!
That's beautiful, Katie ! (Katie she puts her flower on the top of her head and walks away)
Ha-ah-ah.
In a... really weird way.
My world is called Jessicaland, and everyone worships Queen Jessica because Jessica is so beautiful.
Jessica, that was awesome.
Rudy!
Mom, be careful! My best friend Thidwick lives on that!
Rudy, no one lives on this, it's not possible. (She crushes the flower in front of him.)
What...?
That Horton is a menace.
Mom, Mom, please, you're so weird! Don't do this to me!
Honey, go to your room. (Pushes Rudy's head to her pouch) Horton! (Horton and his class look away, while Jessica and Angela scream in terror and run away at the sight of Sour. Rudy's mother kicks Katie from bush, sending her flying over a tree resembling a football goal, but surprisingly, she finds it amusing)
Oh, you guys with worlds are in trouble! (he run away)
Have you forgotten what we've discussed?
Oh no, I'm an Elephant and Elephants never forget, it's a curse really! I remember, I was on my head and you said hmm and I looked up and you said ,what are you doing?, and I said the thing about the speck, then you pulled my ears and you poked me in the forehead...
Horton!
: Well you did.
All right. I got to get this speck up to the top of Mountain Nool A-S-A-P! Whatever that means. Probably "Act Swiftly, Awesome Pachyderm!" I mean, how hard can it be? (looks at a really, really long rickety bridge, shocked) It's just a straight plummet to certain death. (?) This looks... kinda precarious. Well... no need to worry. Obviously when they build a bridge like this, they take into account that elephants will be crossing here. (Horton reaches his foot out and puts his weight onto the bridge, which bends good.) Alright. Feel good. I'll just get... whoa! (He steps onto the bridge with his whole body, making him lose his balance. And each step causing him to wobble on the bridge.)
(Meanwhile, back in Whoville, the Mayor is at the dentist for his Who-root canal, feeling stressed as he sits into the chair. Looking around, he spots a portrait of a whale tail dipping out of the water, and a label saying "Courage.")
W- Uh yeah, that's true. (He lays back into his chair with a sigh, trying to calm his mind and relax, thinking it's gonna be okay, when he hears a scream from a room over, followed by a higher pitched scream. Panicked, he gets up and attempts to run out) Alright! (but is stopped by the operating dentists.)
Hello, and how are we today, Mr. Mayor? (grabs an water flosser) Say aaaaah.
Ah! (takes a step, but falls right through the plank, causing the dentist to miss the Mayor's mouth, but instead hit his eye with the stream of water, much to his discomfort. Looking around confused, the dentist forgets the weird shake, and proceed.)
Rinse, please. (The Mayor fountains the water out of his mouth and into the cup, prompting the dentist to scrape a little dollop of water off his lip.)
Huh, I think a few of these boards could stand to be replaced. (He takes a step back, but the plank behind him breaks, causing every single plank behind him to fall off and crumble.) I just need to think light. I'm light as a feather. I'm light... as a feather. (He watches as a passing bird drops a feather, which lands on a board, causing it to break and fall.) Heavy feather.
Okay! (He taps a syringe.) This will just pinch a little.
Uhh...
I'm lighter than a feather. What's lighter than a feather...? (gasp of idea) Air! There's nothing lighter. So, it stands to reason... (He takes a breath in.) That the more air I have... (He takes another breath, his talking strained.) The lighter... (And another.) I'll be...!
(The music, "The Blue Danube" plays as Horton holds his breath with an inflated trunk, thinking for him to be floating in air, but he quickly steps across the bridge, breaking each plank he steps on. The scene switches between the dentist getting closer with the syringe to the Mayor's tongue, and Horton getting closer to the end of the bridge, but as he runs out of breath, he exhales powerfully enough to send him barreling back down to the middle of the bridge with nothing but the support ropes keeping him from falling. While in response to the fall, the dentist misses the Mayor's tongue, and somehow jabs his arm with the needle instead, prompting the Mayor to scream in pain as his arm is now longer and limp from the shot. He gets up and runs away, but struggles to open the door with his bad arm until he uses his other arm to open the door, running out and slapping the people in the waiting room with his numb arm.)
Next, please.
Alright. That was absolutely terrifying. If I just pull myself UP- (His legs spread out as he tries to hold onto the ropes and looks down at the abyss beneath him.) Try not to panic! (Painstakingly, he manages to pull himself back up to the end of the bridge, grabbing onto the posts when they jolt downward. He starts screaming as he believes for him to be falling, but as the camera zooms out, he's not falling, and he just acted pre-emptively. He hums, and pulls himself all the way back onto solid ground.) Whew. That could have been a disaster! (As he walks, his bottom begins to bounce and bop, getting into a giddy groove.) Wow, I feel really good right now. Maybe it's my new sense of purpose. (He begins ballet dancing, grabbing a vine off of a tree and twirling it like a ribbon, before the theme changes to a rap-themed, twerking in motion and spin, which sends him crashing into a tree with a "Whoa!")
(The Mayor runs home from the dentist with his numb arm flailing behind him. He enters and closes the door on his arm, struggling to pull it out, before noticing JoJo holding a pile of various objects.)
Alright...! Heeey, JoJo, I need your help. Can you help me? Okay, great! Okay, first! I need you to go to the girl's room! (His numb arm rubberbands back at him and slaps him in the face.) Ahh! Take down Hannah's china doll collection, and then- stop looking at my arm. Put away Holly's light bulb collection, and then- you know what? Just take care of anything that might break or shatter! Okay, take a good long look. (grabs his numb arm and starts shaking at it) Got it? Thanks JoJo! (He runs up the stairs, and starts shouting some gibberish nonsense as he shakes his arm, before throwing it against the wall, where he screams in pain. But in realization, his arm is no longer numb and works perfectly again. He goes to his room and grabs some stuff from his room) Here. I'll take that, and- whoa. Yah! (He starts putting his stuff to the top of his room)
Sally O'Malley-McDodd: Hi! You're home late!
Oh, sorry Hon, I was just... having some dental work done. On my... arm.
Sally O'Malley-McDodd: So, what was that- Ned! What are you doing?
Wha- What do you mean?
Sally O'Malley-McDodd: Well, I'm no detective, Ned, but you are hanging from the chandelier.
I just thought it might look better somewhere it can't fall on us and crush us in our sleep. (The chandelier starts falling down as he screams until it closely hits the ground, with him chuckles nervously)
Sally O'Malley-McDodd: What is going on?
... Hey, Hon... Did you ever get the feeling that you were being watched?
Sally O'Malley-McDodd: Um... yeah. Sure. I suppose.
And then you get the feeling that maybe that thing watching you is, aaauuuhh- a giant elephant!
Sally O'Malley-McDodd: Um...
And- You know how you get that weird feeling that your world is actually a tiny speck? And that elephant... that I talked about earlier, is carrying it around on a flower. And you realize that if you tell anybody, they'd think you were crazy. But you still feel the responsibility to keep everyone safe... You know that feeling?
Sally O'Malley-McDodd: Um... you know, I'm gonna have to say no... do you know that feeling?
... dah! Pfft, hohohoho, no! (yawn) Wow, I am beat. Time to hit the hay, I guess.
Sally O'Malley-McDodd: Sweetheart, I know you're under a lot of stress. And if you're seeing elephants and flowers, then fine. Just don't tell anyone else that story, okay? And remember, it's not the end of the world.
The end of the world...?
Horton? I get terrible reception here.
HOW ABOUT THIS?! IF I GET UP REAL CLOSE, CAN YOU READ ME?!
Yep! Roger that! Are we at that safe place yet?
Almost. I'm pretty sure the worst part's over. This is your elephant speaking. Just sit back, enjoy the ride, and we'll have you to Mount Nool in no time.
Sally O'Malley-McDodd: (off-screen) No, you can't have ice cream for breakfast.
Pleeaase?
Who's that? Is there someone else there?
Well, that's my wife and kids.
You have a family...
I do indeed. (reveals his wallet and shows a really long pictures of his children) A beautiful wife, 96 daughters, and 1 son. (shows a picture of Jojo through his wallet)
Hohohoho! Busy guy, haha.
And we all share one bathroom. You know how that is.
Yeah! Don't I know it, heh. (whispered; to himself) Bathroom?
Sally O'Malley-McDodd: Ned?
Ahh- What?
Sally O'Malley-McDodd: Sweetheart, you know you're on the roof, right?
Please, Mom.
Sally O'Malley-McDodd: (to her daughter) What's that? No, you need to go to bed, Daddy's having a breakdown. (to the Mayor) Ned? What are you up to now?
I was just about to put the kids to bed when I got off the roof. And I- That's the- That's what happened, right.
Daddy?
Yes?
Can I have a glass of water?
Of course.
Good Night. Me too! Me three! Me four! Me five! Me nine! Me twenty-eight! (And so on.)
Okaay.
Heey, JoJo. Wooooow, lotta liquid. Loottta liquid. Just the person I wanted to see. Yeah, I realize that we have not been seeing eye-to-eye lately, and most of it is my fault. It's true. You know what I've been trying to do? I've been trying to impose my vision of your future on you. Let me make this perfectly clear. JoJo... you can be whatever kind of Mayor you wanna be. Hands on, strong and silent, outspoken, it's up to you. Well, good. I feel so much better. I am expecting big things from you, young man. Big things! Alright. Good night. Good stop! Good talk.
Then, JoJo snuck out, feeling lonely and sad,
and tragically misunderstood by his Dad. And where was he going at such a late hour?
Up to Whoville's abandoned star study tower.
A place where the boy felt contented and free.
A place he could be what he wanted to be
(JoJo enters the abandoned observatory) And what was inside there, I'd say if I could. But up above, the Kangaroo was up to no good.
No, Rudy. Stay in your room.
But Mom...
Stay inside. ahem... Mr. Vladikoff? (gets jumpscared by vulture-like monster and yelps.)
Eating. Go.
Yes, I realize you're busy. But I need your help. It's Horton. He's become obsessed with a clover. And he actually thinks there are little people on it. I want that clover destroyed!
Sure, what a big deal this is… for you, bro.
I'd do it myself, but being a lady, I prefer not getting my hands dirty. But I hear you have no problem with that.
No. No problem. Easy peasy. But... I will only do this for a price. In exchange for a brand new pair of- No... this. Little Kangaroo.
Mom?!
Quiet, Rudy. Mommy's thinking it over. (to Vlad) Huh... well thaaanks, but on second thought, I think I'm going to have the Wickersham Brothers take care of this for me.
Yeah, of course, Wickersham. I mean they're-they're classy operation, y'know they did- WAIT, NO! YOU CAN'T GO WITH WICKERSHAM!
No no, no no, the Wickershams would be perfect for this job.
But... they're monkeys! Is not scary!
Uhh, thanks anyway. Maybe next time.
Wait! Here is what I will do to precious clover. I will take it, I will crush it… …And I will devour it. (He begins to choke on a bone he swallowed) Bigger than it look! One second! (retch) Holy moly! (He manages to cough it up and pull it out.) Then I will regurgitate it… …And then, I will devour it second time! So… two times devoured!
Sounds nice... But I think I'll talk to the Wickershams.
Here is best part. I do all... (mispronounced) g-g-gratis. That's free, bro. What do you think? (He nods excitedly, knowing he wants the deal)
Deal.
YES! SCORE! Thanking you! You won't regret! (He flies away laughing, forgetting to flap and falls for a moment, before getting back up with a cackle.)
(Back to Horton as he is sleeping alone with the clover and he feels cold so he warm himself. Fade to black.)
Mayor? Mayor? Open up, Mr. Mayor! Mr. Mayor! It's snowing in the summer!
Yes. Yes, it is.
It's a dramatic change in the weather. As if we're on a speck floating to space. I don't know how you knew. But, somehow you did. And Whoville is headed for disaster.
Oh, Horton.
What?
Ah, nothing. I'm on it.
It's up to us to save the people of Whoville.
Uh-oh. Hang on Mr. Mayor. I may have to put up a fight. A frightened elephant could be very dangerous. (to the rustling sound) Alright! You've called down the thunder, buddy. You hungry for trouble? I'M AN ALL-YOU-CAN-EAT SALAD BAR! TAKE A BITE!!!
I hate running.
Morton! (gritting teeth goofily) Don't do that!
Horton! Horton? (turns around to see Horton's eyes) D'oh! There you are. We got trouble! Wait. Stay. Wait. Did you hear that? No, I'm here. Okay. Listen. No, go. Kangaroo has gone nuts. Bananas. She's telling everyone that you should be kicked out of Nool.
She said that? I thought we were friends.
Word is, she's gone to Vlad's.
Vlad. Vlad. I know two Vlads. Is it the bad Vlad or the bunny Vlad that makes the Cookies?
Yeah, Horton. She's sending you a bunny with cookies. I think we can assume it's the bad Vlad.
Yeah, that's a good call.
So, unless you're cool with giant razor sharp claws (pulls Horton's eyes) ripping the flesh off of your body, I get rid of the clover.
I can't. I promised the Mayor. I meant what I said and I said what what I meant. And an elephant's faithful 100%.
Please, for me, just this once, be faithful 99% of the time. I've never gone 99% on anything. They think I'm awesome. So, come on.
I meant to what I said and I said what I meant.
I'm not gonna say it. (Horton wants Morton to say it, but fails) You can do that all day it's not happening. (Still waiting to finish the sentence, Morton sighs) An elephant's faithful 100%.
That's right. That's my code. My motto. Thanks for the warning, Morton.
Okay, but watch the skies. (pulls Horton's eyes again) Keep watching the skies.
Mayor, you need to get everyone underground, NOW!
Two, Three, four...
I don't wanna sound the alarm. (Mayor starts doing mouth-to-mouth at the fish before the fish inflates, eyes open wider) There's a good possibility we maybe attacked by a giant, carnivorous bird.
What?!
There's a small chance it could be a bunny with cookies, but, I wouldn't count on it.
Oh, they are formidable.
Mayor, are you there?
Yeah, no. That's a great idea. It's just... in order to get everyone mobilized, I need the "Okay" of the city council. And they never listen to me. I've been called a boob. Several times. I can't do it.
You have to talk to them, Mayor. Okay, listen...
(Just as he talks to the Mayor)
Ah, Horton.
Are you okay?
Ah. (He later looks outside to see the residents standing, then he saw an orange Who grabbing on a machine, with a green Who getting out) Well, more or less. What happened? The bird?
Yeah, it attacked me. (more serious) Mayor, your people are in danger.
You know what, I'm gonna do it. I'm going to go out there. And tell them what is going on.
Perfect. Now quick, get going.
Hey, Mr. Mayor! Something's wrong!
My basement is in the attic.
The science museum is history.
Who 4: The Lost and Found is missing.
What's going on Mr. Mayor?
I'm declaring a state of emergency.
Don't worry. Don't worry. The Mayor is just being a moron. (All of the Who residents all leave as they're nothing happening)
No, wait! Whoville is in terrible danger. Everyone needs to get down to the underground storage area immediately.
Fine, fine. Let's do this democratically. Who wants the joy and glory and festivity of the Who-centennial to proceed as planned? (They all cheer, except for Sally) And who, like the Mayor, (A beach ball is thrown to the Mayor) thinks it would be better to spend the Who-Centennial in an underground storage area?
YEAH!!! (Tries to high five somebody, much to no one's answer)
Wait! You got to listen to me. Our whole world could explode! (grabs a beach ball as example. The Whos gasp in shocked. The Mayor grabs a pen and stabs the beach ball, with a little air coming out of the ball) Much more quickly. (Squeezes the beach ball to understand his point more quickly) And our world wouldn't make that noise.
The people have spoken Mr. Mayor. You're finished. No one believes you. No one supports you.
Horton believes me.
Horton? Who's Horton?
Horton is a giant elephant in the sky. (points up to the sky, much to the Who's confusion) Don't bother looking, he's invisible. And he is the one risking his life to get Whoville, which by the way is a speck on a clover, to safety.
I can prove it. Horton's voice comes out of this horn. (Who-ville residents uses their stuff to hear Horton's voice from the horn.) Horton! (At the jungle, Horton stops walking and hears Mayor's voice) I have all the Whos gathered in town square. Let them know you there.
Gee. It's a kind of high pressure situation then. Wow. I'm really running a blank here. (He has an idea) I know. (But the Vlad yanks the speck, much to Horton's horror)
Horton? Horton, We're waiting. Time to show everyone that you exist and... By extension what a non-boob I am. (chuckles awkwardly, and everyone laughs at him once again, until heavy wind swept around) Wait! Everyone, look at the wind. What do you think that means?
It means, Um, it means... obviously, uh... Let the Kite Flying Race begins! (They all cheer and began the kite race)
What a burn on you, Horton! Ha, Ha!
(Horton climbs the wall and reaches the top. He grabs on a plant to pull his feet up. He falls forward, puts the plant down and runs through the dirt path in determination. While running, he noticed Vlad's black feather on the branch, grabbing it before glaring at it angrily. He charged through the snow, another feather falling, which he catches up, glancing at it before looking up. He saw the vulture before charging through the snow, he smokes snow air through his trunk like a train and jumps over a gap before landing in the snow, swimming through it and out)
Woo, brain freeze!
Give me back my speck. (Horton jumps and tries to grab it. But Vlad quickly dodges)
Not this time guy.
I'm so sorry that I let you down, but... this... this is bigger than me. Get the family together and get somewhere safe.
Sally O'Malley-McDodd: I will! I believe you.
I've got you now, elephant.
No! No! NO! (Vlad he drops the speck, much to Horton's horror, as it shows that it will be dropped at a million specks) Oh, no. (Horton covers his eyes as the speck is about to be dropped, and cuts to Who-Ville being jumped harder)
YEAH!!!
(Vlad laughs evilly as his mission completed. As the screen fades to black)
Mayor? Anybody there? Hello? Anyone?
But clover by clover by clover he found,
that the one that he sought for was just not around.
Mayor? Hello?
And by noon, poor Horton, more dead than alive,
had picked, searched, and piled up 9,005.
Hello. Sorry to bother you, nobody. Knock knock. This is the way you say, "Who's there?" If there were any Whos there. Get it! "Who's there?!" (babbling)
All day he looked, looked on and on,
till his hope was almost gone.
No. No. No. Please, No! This isn't fair!
But wait! Could this one be the one?
Was all his searching finally done?
(an excited Horton runs through the clover and grabs it and later jumps through a pile of clovers) Ah, yes! For this was the hour,
Horton have found them on the three-millionth flower!
Mayor? Mayor! I found you! (Silence; Horton's face goes nervous as the speck didn't answer) Mayor? Are you there? Mayor? (Horton lies down in defeat) Mayor! (Cuts to Who-Ville, being destroyed due to Vlad dropping the speck) Mayor, are you there? Mayor? Mayor? (Cuts back to the clover field) Mayor.... MAYYOOR!!!!!! (He falls down and begins to cry, covering his eyes with his ears, until he hears something)
Uh, no. This is Floyd. Can I take a message?
Mayor! You're Okay!!
Horton! Horton! Stop! Stop it!
Sorry. (Back at Who-Ville) It must've been rough down there. I can't believe I found you. You really have me worried.
Say, the Mayor was right!
Daddy, daddy, daddy.
Okay, I'm alright. And so are you. (Sally arrives and she and Ned both smile at each other before he talks to the Who's and clear his throat) Citizens of Whoville! I'd like you to meet our friend, Horton. (The Who's all cheer for Horton, with him being in touched, then back to Whoville) He's going to help us.
I've got this. This is the chairman-
IDIOT!!! You're finished in this town. Is that understood? Finished. You boob!! (The chairman was too appalled to speak, before Horton laughs) I'm just joking.
Good one.
Horton, this is my wife Sally.
Sally O'Malley-McDodd: You exist! This means my husband isn't crazy. Hooray!
And... off you my daughters. Haley, Holly, Hooly, Hedy Hilda and Hanna.
Hi!!
And here is Miss. Yelp, my loyal assistant. And here's Dr. Larue...
You saved us.
And Bert from accounting. And Mrs. McGilicuddy. (a cat yowl can be heard from the speck) And Mr. Farfoogan from the Cloogan Farfoogans. And the Oldman in the bathtub.
Sally O'Malley-McDodd: Let's not overwhelm the poor fella. He's never gonna remember all these names.
I'll try my best. Sally. Chairman. Haley, Holly, Hooly, Hilda, Hedy & Hanna. Miss Yelp, Dr. Larue, Bert from Accounting, Mrs. McGilicuddy, Mr. Farfoogan of the Clugan Farfoogans. And wasn't there an old guy in a shower?
Mmm, Bathtub.
Oh, yeah.
We're all here, Horton. And we all believe in you.
Wow! That's awesome. And it's a responsibility, I do not take lightly. I promise you a future that it's safe, sound, and stable. We will create a world where every Who is endowed with three inalienable rights to be determined that a later date.
They don't believe we're here. (to the Who's) We got to make some noise! We are here! We are here! We are here!
We are here! We are here! We are here!
We are here! We are here! We are here!
Come on! (to the Whos) Everybody! (All of the Who's start saying "We are here!" repeatedly) We are here. We are here. We are here.
(Back in Nool, the Wickershams brings in a cauldron of Beelzenut Oil through the angry mob. When dropped on the ground, Horton sees a splash of it killing a flower near it)
Listen. There they are!
(He holds the clover to let them listen. Willie Cow-Bear, tilts his head and lifts his right ear in confusion, while Mrs. Glummox, Mrs. Quilligan, and one of the Wickershams also look at him in confusion. However, he hears nothing because, looking at Quilligan, he shakes his head no. They become furious again)
Rope him!
Cage him!
It's not working. I can hear you. But, their ears aren't strong enough.
We need to be louder. Get every Who to make noise! Everyone!
(All Whos start getting louder while shouting "We are here!" with horns and anything to make noise. Jojo, taking noticed, starts running off before the Mayor takes noticed.)
JoJo, where're you going? We need every voice, JoJo!
You need to make some noise down there. Or we all be destroyed.
The Mayor grabbed the tom-toms and starting to smack it.
And all over Whoville, They whooped up a racket!
(Dr. Larue was about to knock the door, until it opens itself to let a really long horn playing, with much of the Who's playing it. Cut to a montage of Whos making noises)
They rattle tin kettles, they beat on brass pans!
On garbage pail tops and old cranberry cans!
They blew on bazookas and blasted great toots!
On clarinets, oom-pahs, boom-pahs and flutes!
There! (to Horton) Can they hear us now?
Listen! Please! It's the most beautiful thing ever.
I don't hear nothing!
I don't think so. But, keep trying. (The Wickershams starts pulling Horton to get on the cage) Never give in! (tries to struggle, but the Wickershams pulls him harder) Are you sure that every Who down in Whoville is trying?
(The Mayor looks at every Who still saying "We are here!" and making noise, then he sees Sally with a megaphone) Sally O'Malley-McDodd: We are here! We are here!
Where's JoJo?
Sally O'Malley-McDodd: Probably up the old observatory.
(As the Mayor runs to the observatory, we then cut back to Horton, who is still struggling to get in the cage. The Wickersham inside the cage looks horrors as he is crushed by Horton's butt. The Wickershams then pokes Horton through the closing gate)
Hey, there's a limit.
That's not supposed to STRETCH THAT FAR!!! (His tail is also being stretched as well)
(Back at Who-ville, The Mayor struggles to open the door with wood planks until he noticed a tiny door and opens it to see a bunch of instruments playing inside, with him being amazed and saw Jojo, who is adjusting an instrument)
JoJo! You built this?
You're making a mistake.
But Mom!
Sour Kangaroo: This doesn't concern you, sweety. BACK IN THE POUCH!
Everybody, don't stop! Keep going! This is gonna do it! (to Horton) Can they hear?
No matter what happens, I couldn't ask for better, son. (Because of his father's advice, he takes the horn and runs through the stairs) Hey, JoJo? (To the Whos) Come on! Keep going!
NOOOO!
Y-Y-Y-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-P-P-P!!!!
(She drops it. But the Rudy he grabbed and i caught it)
I hear it! I hear it! They are there!
And that "Yopp!", that one small extra "Yopp!" put it over.
I hear it.
Me too.
So do I.
Rudy. (She tries to give Rudy the clover) Give me that! Come, Ru...
Rudy, get back in the pouch, now.
Uh, Wickershams! Get that clover!
Well...A..Anybody take it from him.
(The crowd all glances and growls of the Sour. Yawling Yak, Deer-whose-horns-are-connected-from-one-to-the-other and Cow-Bear looking at her with angry. Sour sighs in humiliation. Her son approaches Horton and gives him his clover)
We did it!
YEAH!!! (Tries to high five somebody, but one Who high fives him)
Well done, son.
Alright, Mayor!
Dad, you're one of the Greats!
Wow! Easy, everyone. Easy! (looks down) Oh hi, Vlad. (The animals gasp in shock, knowing. But, out of nowhere, it's actually a bunny named Vlad. He holding the cookies, the one Horton was confused about earlier, and wants him to have one) Well, I shouldn't. But...
(He takes a cookie, but when he starts to eat it. But Sour, she defeated. He later shows up to her and wants her to have a cookie. Sour then smiles and uses his umbrella at the speck, knowing to let go of her past)
Oh man, that is nice touch. I'm a mess of this, right? Emotional! Here come the water slide. (starts to cry)
Wow. (chuckles) There are so many people to thank. The good people of Nool who put me on a cage and poke me with sticks...
That was me!
My buddy, Morton, for being the only who stood by me. Well, not right by me. He's hidden in the bushes sending me good thoughts. He's small.
Dude, you are a warrior poet.
And most of all, I'd like to thank to the Mayor of Whoville. Who believed me from the beginning.
Oh, Horton, we're going to miss you.
What are we gonna do without you, Horton?
Ah, don't worry. I'll always be around. (sings to the lyrics of "I Can't Fight This Feeling Anymore" by REO Speedwagon) (He holds Willie Cow-Bear in a dancing gesture, stroking his head) And even as I wander, (he puts her arms around him and Mrs. Quilligan) I'll keep you in sight.
You're a candle in the window.
Sally O'Malley-McDodd: (sings) On a cool dark winter's night.
Beautiful metaphor.
And I'm getting closer than I ever thought I might.
Whoo, little too high for me.
(sings) Baby, (He, Sour Kangaroo and Mrs. Quilligan go in the direction of snapping their fingers)
I can't fight this feeling any more.
And if I have to crawl upon the floor.
Sally O'Malley-McDodd: (sings) Crawl upon the floor.
Crashing through your door.
Baby, I can't fight this feeling anymore.
I can't fight this feeling anymore (Cut back to the Jungle of Nool, where Horton, along with Rudy's mother, who is holding an umbrella over the clover, are walking towards Mount Nool to set up Who-ville, with the other animals following them. The camera zooms out.)
And so, all ended well for those, Horton and Whos.
And for all in the jungle, even Kangaroos.
So let that be a lesson to one and to all.
A person's a person...
(As it zooms out, turns out that the Jungle of Nool, like Who-ville, is a tiny speck (and only one of many) in spacewith.)... no matter how small.
(Katie still flying out of existence, ending the film)
And I can't fight this feeling anymore. Yeah, I like-like this, faster, more up-tempo.
Sally O'Malley-McDodd: (sings) I've forgotten what I started fighting for.
That's a metaphor!
Another metaphor!
Ha-aa-ah!
Sally O'Malley-McDodd: (sings) I've forgotten what I started fighting for.
I've forgotten what I started fighting for.
Sally O'Malley-McDodd: Well, you shouldn't be fighting anything, enjoy yourself.
Crashing through your door.
Baby, I can't fight this feeling anymore on an empty stomach.
Sally O'Malley-McDodd: (sings) I can't fight this feeling...
(Yummo makes monkey noises) Sally and Sour Kangaroo: (sings) I can't fight this feeling anymore.
Sorry, just faking words.
Oh, that felt good. Cathartic! What?
