Horton the Elephant: (To the speck) I don't understand. I know I heard you. It was just clean as nose on my face. (Has an idea) That's it. Maybe you can't hear me! Of course your ears must be tiny. I need to speak up! H-E-E-E-L-L-O-O-O-O!
Narrator: Now some people out there, I think I know who,
may find they agree with that Sour Kangaroo.
"There can't really be people as small as a mite."
Well, there can, and there are, because Horton was right.
(?)
Narrator: That single "Hello" traveled all the way down
to the speck, to the clouds, till it found a small town.
A town known as Whoville for there live the Who's,
Really happy in safe, knowing only good news,
unaware that their world was a speck on a clover,
unaware the sweet life they knew might be old. (There in the Ned's house)
The Mayor of Whoville, a man named McDodd,
who's devoted and faired and little bit odd. (The Mayor drinks his coffee, then realizes it's gone, then later forget that happened. The scene then cuts to the kitchen)
The Mayor and his wife they had children to spare.
96 daughters some here and some there. :96 girls to love. 96 girls to teach?
But the Mayor had only a few seconds for each.
Helen McDodd: Daddy. I got better than best on my Whostory test.
Mayor McDodd: Ah, Whostory. I remembered well.
Sally O'Malley-McDodd: That's one of my girls. (There are two daughters. She is named Hooly younger sister and Hedy older sister)
Hooly McDodd: Hedy's been using my blue hairbrush!
Hedy McDodd: Hooly's been using my pink hairbrush!
Mayor Ned McDodd: Look, over there! (They both look and Mayor switched the pink & blue hairbrushes) There, all better. (They both sisters hugged at each other)
Heather McDodd: Can I please have a Whophone, dad? Everyone else has one.
Mayor Ned McDodd: Oh, really? Everyone? (Heather holds up a picture of her class, where everybody is talking away on their phones except her, looking sadly at the camera.) Oh! I will think about it.
Holly and Hildy McDodd: Daddy, look! Daddy look!
(The twins have their hair tied jumping rope together swinging it in loops, when their father jumps between it's like a jump rope, before returning to his seat as the bell rings. A baby girl she is named Hanna 1 year old)
Hanna McDodd: Toof!
Sally O'Malley-McDodd: It's "th" sweetheart. It's "Tooth"
Narrator: In Whoville tradition, unlike yours or mine,
the Mayor's oldest is next in the Mayoral line.
And who was the oldest? To lead and stand tall?
It was JoJo, his son, the smallest Who of all.
Mayor Ned McDodd: (trying to sound more hip) So, JoJo, what's shaking? What's happening? What's the word? (JoJo cringes at him)
Narrator: Now to you or to me, it's finally clear
that JoJo did not want his father's career. But the Mayor pressed forward completely illuded.
And JoJo just sat there in silence and lude it.
(JoJo gets up from his seat and leaves.)
Mayor Ned McDodd: Oh, JoJo! (He rushes to Jojo)
McDodd Sisters: Hey! Why this he get more time?
That's not fair!
Mayor Ned McDodd: Son! Hey!
Narrator: And why didn't he speak? Well, I think the lad
was frightened if he did, he might let down his dad.
Mayor Ned McDodd: You know what's awesome? (Shows Jojo his past portraits of past Mayors) This is awesome! Just look at the men and the women hanging on these walls. You, my boy, are part of family legacy that spans centuries You know what? (Shows a portrait of his grandfather who happens to be Dr. Seuss) Your grandfather was Mayor of Whoville. And, your great grandmother, (Shows a portrait of his great grandmother, who happens to be Mona Lisa) that's right. All the way down to your... (Breaths as his chest expand and his arm rolls like a roll-up) Great, (Shows a portrait of a Who in a soviet hat) Great, (Shows a portrait of a Shakespeare-style Who) Great, (Shows a Who with a very long beard) Not so great, (Shows an ugly who in a ballerina with other ballerinas) Great, (Shows a portrait of a Who in a boxing match in black and white with a signature) Great, (Shows a portrait of a Mexican Who in a sombrero) Great, Great, Great, (shows a portrait of a fat Who eating a turkey leg with the other Who fanning on a leaf) Great, Great, Great, GREAT... (goes all the way back to the very first portrait, which is a cavemen) Grandfather! Someday, I hope to join them. Be one of the greats. I tell you, JoJo, there is nothing like being Mayor. I get to sign resolutions, approve ordinances, submit budgets, and in the Edible Parade, I'm the one sitting on top of the giant meatball. Some day, that can be you too, JoJo. Some day you'll be the one wearing the Mayoral Crest. You just... You just need to... You know what I mean? (sees Jojo walking away) Okay Good chat! I'm glad that we had this talk... that I'm continuing now by myself. Good. (Something shakes the hall as the portraits start shaking as well, before returning to the original format, much to Ned's confusion)
