Kung Fu Panda 2 (2011) as Soothsayer

View Quote Shen: My father's throne. He used to let me play here, beside him. Promising with someday this throne would be mine. A little to the left.
Wolf Boss: But it's so heavy, Master.
Shen: Every thing must be exactly how I envisioned it, and I envisioned it a little to the left. Perfect! With the weapon, by my si.. A little bit more. With the weapon, by my side, all China will bow before me! We move out in 3 days, when the moon is full and the tide is high. Well, Soothsayer, why don't you tell me my...?
Soothsayer: Fortune?
Shen: Future. I was going to say future. Look into your bowl and tell me what glory awaits.
Soothsayer: [peers into her bowl] If you continue on your current path, you will find yourself... at the bottom of the stairs.
[Shen looks down and is annoyed to see he has indeed reached the bottom of the stairs leading to his throne.]
Soothsayer: [still looking] I see... I see... [Shen comes closer] I see... pain.
[She plucks out one of his feathers.]
Shen: OW!
Soothsayer: And anger.
[She chews on the hem of his robe.]
Shen: How dare you! This is the finest silk in the province!
Soothsayer: Followed by denial.
Shen: This is not fortune-telling! You're just saying what's happening right...!
Soothsayer: Now? The most important time is now. But if you really want to see the future...
Shen: What do you see?
[The Soothsayer burns a powder in a dish, creating a vision in swirling smoke.]
Soothsayer: A peacock... is defeated by a warrior, of black and white. Nothing has changed.
[Shen throws a dagger, shattering the dish.]
Shen: [laughs] That's impossible, and you know it.
Soothsayer: It is not impossible, and he knows it.
Shen: Who?
Wolf Boss: [running in] Lord Shen! I saw a panda!
Shen: A panda!? [knocks him to the ground, gripping him by the throat]
Wolf Boss: [nervously] A Kung Fu warrior. He fought like a demon! Big and furry, soft and squishy... uh, kinda plush and cuddly...
Shen: There are no more pandas.
Soothsayer: [taps the Boss's missing eye] Even with his poor eyesight, he can see the truth. Why is it that you cannot?
Shen: [to the Wolf Boss, angrily] Find this panda, and bring him to me! (pushes him away)
Wolf Boss: Yes, sir! [hurries away downstairs]
Shen: [chuckles] So, one panda lives. That does not make you right!
Soothsayer: You're right. Being right makes me right.
Shen: Then I will kill him, and make you wrong! [turns and sees her chewing the hem of his robe again] WILL YOU STOP THAT?!
View Quote Shen: [triumphantly] You were wrong, Soothsayer! [wields sword] We sail to victory tonight. Your magic panda is clearly a fool!
Soothsayer: [angrily] Are you certain it is the panda that is a fool?! You just destroyed your ancestral home, Shen!
Shen: A trivial sacrifice... [sticks the sword's tip into a nearby fire, then pokes the burning tip to a map of China, which bursts into a spreading flame] when all of China is my reward.
Soothsayer: Then will you finally be satisfied? Will the subjugation of the whole world finally make you feel better?
Shen: [sneers] It's a start. I might also convert the basement into a dungeon.
[Her anger spent, Soothsayer approaches the peacock, who is standing at the balcony with his back to her.]
Soothsayer: The cup you choose to fill has no bottom. It is time to stop this madness.
Shen: [chuckles] Why on Earth would I do that?
Soothsayer: So your parents can rest in peace.
Shen: [bitterly] My parents... hated me. Do you understand? They-- they wronged me. And... I will make it right.
Soothsayer: [sadly] They loved you. They loved you so much that having to send you away killed them.
Shen: [pause] The dead exist in the past. And I must tend to the future. [to his gorilla guard] Set the Soothsayer free. She is of no use to me.
Soothsayer: [heartbroken] Goodbye, Shen. I wish you happiness.
Shen: Happiness... must be taken. And I will take mine.
[The gorilla guard leads the Soothsayer out]
View Quote Soothsayer: [first lines; narrating] Long ago, in ancient China. The Peacocks ruled over Gongmen city. They brought great joy, and prosperity to the city. For they had invented fireworks. But their son, Lord Shen saw darker power in the fireworks. What had brought color and joy... could also bring darkness and destruction. Shen's troubled parents consulted a Soothsayer. She foretold that if Shen continued, down this dark path, he would be defeated by a warrior of black and white. The young Lord set out to change his fate. But what he did next… only sealed it. Shen returned to his parents, full of pride. But in their faces, he saw only horror. He was banned from the city forever. But Shen swore revenge. Someday, he would return, and all of China would bow at his feet.

Memoirs of a Geisha (2005) as Mameha

View Quote You cannot call yourself a true geisha until you can stop a man in his tracks with a single look.
View Quote Remember Chiyo, geisha are not courtesans, and we're not wives. We sell our skills, not our bodies. We create another secret world, a place only of beauty. The very word "geisha" means artist, and to be a geisha is to be judged as a moving work of art.
View Quote We don't become geisha to pursue our own destinies. We become geisha because we have no choice.

The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor (2008) as Zi Yuan

View Quote (to the Emperor, as he and his army are being turned into the Terracotta Army; in Chinese) I cursed you and your army.
View Quote Long ago, a mythic battle of good and evil played out in ancient China. The country was torn by civil war, with many kingdoms struggling for land and power. But one king had a ruthless ambition to make himself emperor by the sword. The other leaders had assassins to kill the king, before he could conquer us all. Kingdom by kingdom, his armies swept away everything in its path, and anyone who resisted, met a terrible fate. The country was now his. He was emperor of all under Heaven. He enslaved his conquered enemies and forced them to build his great Wall; and when they were dead, or useless, he had them buried beneath it. The Emperor's mystics taught him mastery over the five elements: Fire, Water, Earth, Wood, and Metal. His power seemed without limit. He was master of millions, but like the lowliest peasant, he could not stop growing old. He needed to defeat his last enemy: Death itself. One day, news came of a powerful witch, who was rumoured to hold the secret to eternal life. He ordered General Ming, his oldest friend and trusted ally, to find her. The witch was named Zi Yuan, and she was nothing like the general expected. On the Western borders stood the monastery of Ti Fuang; there, was housed the greatest library in the ancient world, and Zi Yuan was sure the secret to eternal life was here. It was the long-lost Oracle Bones, a collection of all the mystical secrets concerning the ancient world. The Emperor's answer was here... along with other magic, beyond understanding. She cast the spell in Sanskrit, an ancient language that the Emperor did not understand. The curse must never be lifted, or the Emperor will arise, to enslave all of mankind. On that dark day, there will be nothing, and no-one, to save us.
View Quote Emperor Han (to Zi Yuan, in Chinese): Come on, I want show you something
Zi Yuan: Guo!
Emperor Han (in Chinese): Become my queen and I shall let him live
Ming Guo (to Zi Yuan, in Chinese): Do what he says, save youself!
Zi Yuan (to the Emperor, in Chinese): You will never keep your word
Emperor Han (in Chinese): You are right (He raises his arm and his soldiers kill Ming Guo)

Tomorrow Never Dies (1997) as Wai-Lin

View Quote Wai-Lin: It's mostly dull routine, of course, but every now and then you get to sail on a beautiful evening like this. And sometimes work with a decadent agent of a corrupt Western power.
James Bond: And they say communists don't know how to have fun.
Wai-Lin: Well, I hate to disappoint you, but I don't even have a "little red book."
View Quote [as HMS Bedford searches for Bond and Wai Lin]
Wai Lin: They're looking for us, James.
James Bond: Let's stay under cover.
View Quote Carver: [explaining his plan] What you're about to witness, Miss Lin, is not so much a missile attack, but the launch of a new world order. In precisely five minutes, after your countrymen have attacked the British fleet, I shall retaliate for dear old England by sending this missile in to Beijing, where General Chang has called for an emergency meeting of the Chinese High Command. Unfortunately, General Chang will be 'delayed' in traffic, arriving just after the missile has killed your leaders, and too late to stop the air force from sinking the entire British fleet, but he will be just in time to take over the government, negotiate a truce and emerge as a world leader, with a Nobel Peace Prize.
Wai-Lin: And what do you get?
Carver: Me? Oh, nothing... just exclusive broadcasting rights in China for the next 100 years.
Gupta: [entering a code and contacting Carver via his walkie-talkie] Ready to rock and ruin.
Carver: [back to Lin] If you'll excuse me, I have something of a deadline to meet.

Wicked: For Good (2025) as Madame Morrible

View Quote Citizens of Oz, there have been twelve tide turns since the Wicked Witch of the West escaped with our Grimmerie. Shield your children. Trust no Animals. She will be eliminated. Until then, the Wizard's vision for the Oz of tomorrow marches on.
View Quote You listen to me, Missy. You may be fooling the rest of Oz, but you're not fooling me. You wanted this from the beginning, Ga-linda. And now you're getting what you wanted. So just do what you do best. Smile, wave, and shut up.
View Quote Madame Morrible: Glinda, dear, can you not find it in your heart to forgive me? With Oz as my witness, I can see now how truly good you are.
Glinda: Actually, I'm not. Not yet. But just think, Madame. We have so many cages. And all recently vacated. You'll have your pick. Although I can't imagine you'll hold up very well. I mean, my personal opinion is you do not have what it takes. I hope you prove me wrong. I doubt you will.

Crazy Rich Asians (2018) as Eleanor Young

View Quote I chose to help my husband run a business and to raise a family. For me, it was a privilege. But for you, you may think it's old-fashioned. It's nice you appreciate this house and us being here together wrapping dumplings. But all this doesn't just happen. It's because we know to put family first, instead of chasing one's passion.
View Quote Rachel Chu: Thanks for meeting me here.
[Eleanor eyes the other two women at the mahjong table]
Rachel Chu: Don't worry about them. They're half-deaf and they only speak Hokkien.
[Long pause as Eleanor reluctantly settles into her seat]
Rachel Chu: My mom taught me how to play. She told me mahjong would teach me important life skills: Negotiation. Strategy. Cooperation.
Eleanor Young: You asked me here, I assume it's not for a Mahjong lesson. [Shows her tiles] Pong. My mother taught me too.
Rachel Chu: I know Nick told you the truth about my mom, but you didn't like me the second I got here. Why is that?
Eleanor Young: There is a Hokkien phrase 'kaki lang'. It means: our own kind of people, and you're not our own kind.
Rachel Chu: Because I'm not rich? Because I didn't go to a British boarding school, or wasn't born into a wealthy family?
Eleanor Young: You're a foreigner. American – and all Americans think about is their own happiness.
Rachel Chu: Don't you want Nick to be happy?
Eleanor Young: It's an illusion. We understand how to build things that last. Something you know nothing about.
Rachel Chu: You don't know me.
Eleanor Young: I know you're not what Nick needs.
Rachel Chu: [pauses] Well he proposed to me yesterday. [pauses] He said he'd walk away from his family and from you for good. [pauses] Don't worry, I turned him down.
Eleanor Young: [sighs] Only a fool folds a winning hand.
Rachel Chu: Mm no. There's no winning. You made sure of that. 'Cause if Nick chose me, he would lose his family. And if he chose his family, he might spend the rest of his life resenting you.
Eleanor Young: [after a long pause] So you chose for him...
Rachel Chu: I'm not leaving because I'm scared, or because I think I'm not enough – because maybe for the first time in my life, I know I am. [Choking back tears] I just love Nick so much, I don't want him to lose his mom again. So I just wanted you to know: that one day – when he marries another lucky girl who is enough for you, and you're playing with your grandkids while the Tan Hua's are blooming, and the birds are chirping – that it was because of me: a poor, raised by a single mother, low class, immigrant nobody.
