D Dusty
I’m a crop duster.
That airplane needs some help. You all know that, right?
Z Zed
It's really compelling underdog story. Like Old Yeller.
N Ned
That's not an underdog story!
Z Zed
There's a dog in it.
[telling Dusty the truth of his past]
My first patrol as a Jolly Roger was at Glendale Canal. My squadron was all rookies, all razor-sharp. I should know, I trained every single one of them.
[A flashback is shown of Skipper's backstory, of him flying with his squadron in WW2.]
It was supposed to be a routine mission; A milk run.
L Lucas
[In the flashback, spotting a Japanese battleship]
Look Skipper! Enemy ship, 2:00 low, 2 miles! Easy pickings! What do you say?
[In the flashback]
Negative, Jigsaw 2. Our orders are to recon and report back.
L Lucas
Come on, Skip! It will be a turkey shoot!
OP Other Plane
Let's do it, Skipper!
Alright, let's go in for a closer look, but keep your distance!
L Lucas
[Skipper and his Squadron dive down towards the battleship. When they get through the clouds, it reveals that it's not just one ship; it's a whole fleet of Japanese battleships. The ships immediately all begin shooting at them.] [terrified]
HOLY COW! IT'S THE WHOLE ENEMY FLEET!!
[voiceover]
It was too late to pull up.
[The squadron returns fire, but bombs hit the planes, causing many to explode.] [In the flashback]
Get out of there, Lucas!!
[One by one, each of the planes is shot down. On fire, they all crash into the sea... including Skipper. Hours later, the badly damaged Skipper is rescued by an American battleship. A medic pitty silently informs him he's the only survivor of the attack. Skipper is devastated beyond words, tears in his eyes as the flashback ends] [voiceover as flashback ends]
My whole squadron... under my command. [Dusty is shocked beyond words] After that… I just couldn't bring myself to fly again. Let me ask you something, Dusty. - if you knew the truth about my past, would you have asked me to train you?
D Dusty
[Dusty can't think of any words. He feels horribly regretful when he says the truth.] [Heartbroken and truthfully]
No.
(on radio)
This is Propwash Junction to Dusty Crophopper.
[turns the mic on]
I read you, Chug.
So, what's it like racing with the big dogs, Duster?
Well, our wings froze solid. We had icicles hanging off our wings, and I nearly smashed into a 10 storey iceberg.
Yeah "Awesome" is not quite the word that I would use to describe a gruesome near-death experience.
You hang in there, buddy. There's nothing better than dying while doing what you love most.
[sighs]
That's gonna make him feel a lot better.
Dusty, just like when the Jolly Wrenches were up in the allusion, the air down close to the seas has more moisture, which is why you took on ice. You gotta try to fly higher.
The good news is, tomorrow's leg goes through the Bavarian obstacle course. It's all about agility, so it's your chance to move up. And remember, it's not speed that wins races; it's skills.
Uh... [echoing] Hello? [pauses for five seconds] Is this where I'm supposed to be?
NF Nepalese Forklift
That is one of life's great questions.
NF Nepalese Forklift
Mr. Crophopper, welcome to Nepal.
I don't understand; have the others left already?
NF Nepalese Forklift
Actually, no one else is here yet. You're in first place.
[cuts to the other racers having just arrived and landed in Nepal] [about Dusty]
He flew through a what?
Si, crazy like a Firefox.
NF Nepalese Forklift
[indistinctive chatter]
Dusty, how does it feel to be in first place?
It feels great. But more than anything, I'm just glad I fit through that tunnel. Guys, I gotta tell you, if you're ever in a tight squeeze, just... [spots Ishani in the distance with a new propeller] excuse me, guys.
[walks over to Ishani]
Crazy day today, huh?
[gasps]
Oh yeah, a very exciting win for you today. [chuckles nervously] Quite a risk you took.
Yeah, yeah. Hey, you're propellor, is it new?
Sky Slicer Mark 5, right? Aren't those made exclusively by Ripslinger's race team?
Look, I didn't ever want to hurt you.
You could have gotten me killed out there today!
I really thought that you'd just turn around.
Well, you were wrong, and I was wrong about you. [Dusty walks away from Ishani after scolding her; to Ripslinger] Oh hey Rip, Thanks for first place.
[Ripslinger growls frustratingly]
Why hello ladies! YOU READY TO LOSE?
AP Aircraft Plane 2
Last one to the water tower buys a round of fuel.
Tell you what, I'll give you guys a head start! You're gonna need it!
AP Aircraft Plane 1
Later, loser.
One one thousand, two one thousand. Oh, that's enough.
[to the two Aircraft planes]
See you, suckers! Eat my...
L Leadbottom
Dusty! [coughs] Pay attention, you're daydreaming again.
Me? No, no, no! No. Okay, yes. But, you know, come on, Leadbottom. Really? How hard is this? Fly straight, turn around, fly straight.
Excuse me, how much does a snowplow weigh?
Enough to break the ice. I am El Chupacabra.
Ah, you're the snow plow, right?
Cold, frozen and lifeless.
No I... it sounds better in spanish. Ha!
Why don't you go plow yourself, El Chu-toy. [Rochelle walks away]
[propellor spins sideways and stops]
She is like an angel.
[Radio chatter in Spanish] [A forklift is seen on a helicopter, guiding it as it lifts Dusty out of the ocean] [paparazzi clamoring; Chug, Dottie, El Chupacabra, sadly watch the helicopter lower an injured and unconscious Dusty to the ground, once Dusty safely touches the ground, Chug, Dottie, El Chupacabra, Skipper and three members of the paparazzi rush towards him feeling sorry for him]
Dusty!
[Plane transitions to the hangar room where Dusty has just woken up] [looking at Dusty’s X-rays]
Broken wing ribs, twisted gear, bent prop, and your main spar is cracked... bad. It's over.
[Turns towards Skipper]
One mission... So much for "Volo Pro Veritas". (It's like you told me, you clearly don't fly for truth, do you? So, what really happened?)
[Silence]
Can we get a minute alone, please? [Chug, Dottie and El Chupacabra leave the room] You too Sparky. [Sparky also leaves] My first patrol as a jolly wrench was at Glendal Canal. My squadron were all rookies, all razor sharp. I should know I trained every single one of them. It was supposed to be a routine patrol, a milk run.
J2 Jigsaw 2
Look, Skipper, Japanese ship 2:00 low, 2 miles. Easy pickings, what do you say?
Negative, Jigsaw 2. Our orders are to recon and report back.
J2 Jigsaw 2
Come on, Skipper, it will be a turkey shoot.
J5 Jigsaw 5
Let's do it, Skipper!
J1 Jigsaw 17
Yeah, come on!
All right. Let's go in for a closer look, but keep your distance.
J3 Jigsaw 3
Holy Cow! It's the whole Japanese Fleet!
It was too late to pull up!
J3 Jigsaw 3
Get outta there, Lucas!
[Jigsaw 15 gets shot, even more of the jigsaws get shot and crash into the ocean] [Skipper gets shot as well and crashes into the ocean, screen cuts to black, then he is seen in a harness getting lifted out of the ocean all injured and unconscious, once on the ship's deck, Sparky is seen wearing a Swiss helmet feeling sorry for him]
My whole squadron. [flashback ends] Under my command. After that, I just couldn't bring myself to fly again. Let me ask you something, Dusty. If you knew the truth about my past, would you have asked me to train you?
[Dusty then walks away limping] [to Dusty]
I'm sorry, Dusty...
And he's through the Start Gate. The racers must pass through the blue pylons on the horizontal and around the red pylons on the Knife Edge. Now he's coming back to Gate 3. Nicely done, my man. Setting himself up, a little high through the blue pylons there. Lining up for the Quadro. He's taking a hard right with a 279-degree high-G turn. Oh yeah! Back all the way around. Whoo! Cleanly through. Ha, look at you, man! All right. Good speed. Lining up for the 3-pylon chicane, amazing pitch control. Smooth! Fast! Clean! He's going into the final turn, into the half Cuban 8, pulling an aggressive 9.2 Gs. Attacking the climb! Wow! Now that's some speed.
