Mrs. Kekoa
Nani, we both know this didn't go well today. I can see you're trying, but you're too smart for me to beat around the bush here. I know it hasn't been that long since your parents passed away, but my job is to make sure that Lilo is in a stable environment. And I can't say that in good conscience right now. Listen, I know this is a lot. You're practically a kid yourself. Look, you seem like a goal-oriented person. We have a new director coming into town next week. And I would really, really love to tell him that you girls have turned the corner. So why don't we come up with some goals to achieve by then?
Nani
Yeah, yeah.
Mrs. Kekoa
All right, here. Three things. First, I want this house cleaned, including laundry and a fully stocked fridge.
Nani
Perfect.
Mrs. Kekoa
Second, pay all those bills I saw in the kitchen.
Nani
Yes.
Mrs. Kekoa
And third, file for health insurance for you and Lilo.
Nani
Got it.
Mrs. Kekoa
Now if you do those three things by Friday, I might be able to give you some more time.
Mrs. Kekoa
[After Mrs. Kekoa informs Nani that she has a week to get things organized by Friday] [waving while driving away]
Don't forget the insurance.
Nani
[smiles; waving goodbye to Mrs. Kekoa]
Yeah, yeah. You got it. [mumbling under her breath while turning towards Lilo as she starts to charge towards her] You're gonna need the health insurance for when I KILL YOU! [Lilo screams in terror and runs into the house to the other door, realizing she's in a lot of trouble; takes a shortcut, scaring her and chases her down the hallway] Oh, yeah! We took out the smoke alarm batteries. I'll show you "can't breathe." COME HERE! [grabs her by the shirt]
Lilo
AAAH! Let go of me!
Nani
No. [Lilo grabs a pillow off the couch and hits her in the face with it, leaving her stunned] Ow. Okay. No, no, no, no, no, no. [wraps her around in a blanket like a burrito, before she tries to escape again; berating] Why didn't you wait at hula?!
Lilo
Because you weren't THERE!
Nani
Do you want them to split us up?! Because that's what's gonna happen if we don't get it together! [Lilo licks her arm to free herself] Hey! Did you just lick me?!
Lilo
[storms upstairs to her room]
Stop pretending you're my mom!
Nani
Oh, at least I don't tell the social worker that I like jumping out of windows!
Lilo
Well, it's better than listenin' to you!
Nani
GO TO YOUR ROOM!
Lilo
I'M ALREADY IN MY ROOM! [slams her door closed]
Tūtū
[Nani presses a pillow into her face, screaming in anger as Lilo buries her face onto her bed, screaming in irritation; Outside, Tūtū's goat, Albert bleats] [sprays water on a goat with a water hose]
Hey! Albert!
Tūtū
[Nani exits the house, taking out the trash, Tūtū drives her dune buggy down the hill to see her]
There she is, Miss Aloha.
Nani
[clenches through her teeth]
Yeah. Not today, she's not.
Tūtū
Meeting didn't go well? I never liked that government lady anyway. Why is she always so smiley? Gives me the creeps.
Nani
Yeah, well, our future is in her hands.
Tūtū
Ah, ah. None of that. Your future is in your hands. And you're gonna have a very bright future 'cause of that akamai brain of yours. [Nani slurps her Capri Sun and reveals her university acceptance letter she finds in the trash bin] What? Your acceptance letter to your dream school magically taken out of your trash and appearing in your bag at your place of work? Ooh, that's a sign, girl.
Nani
Will you stop with this?
Tūtū
That school is the best school in the whole world for that bionic magnets.
Nani
Bion... Marine biology.
Tūtū
Marine biology. And they already let you in once, and they wanted to give you for full ride.
Nani
Yeah, I know. But Tūtū, there's no way. Lilo needs me here.
Tūtū
You ever asked Lilo what she wants?
Nani
She's six, so no.
D David
[enters with his surfing board]
Sorry, Tūtū. [sees Nani] Had to catch a few extra ones. The swell was... Hey, Nani! What are you doing here?
Nani
I live here. We're neighbors.
D David
[chuckles]
Yeah. Yeah, that's... that's good. Uh... The waves were crazy today. You know, I was like, "Nani should be here.", 'cause you're always, like, and I miss shredding you. I mean, I miss... I miss seeing you shred waves, so... Yeah. I've always loved watching you. Not to say that--
Tūtū
[interrupts]
Well said, David.
Nani
Well...
D David
So, like... when are you gonna go surfing?
Nani
Maybe when Lilo turns 18. Enjoy the surf. [turns to go back inside]
Tūtū
Bebeh. Now, make up with your sister, yeah? You need anything, you just ask, okay? We're not just neighbors, you know. We're 'ohana. [Nani heads inside the house]
D David
Yeah, I mean, if you...
Tūtū
[drives away in her dune buggy]
No, no! No, David, you've said enough.
