Mr. Arrow was a... [clears throat] fine spacer. Finer than most of us could ever hope to be. But he knew the risks, as do we all. Resume your posts. We carry on.
Mr. Arrow, I've checked this miserable ship from stem to stern, and, as usual, it's... spot on. Can you get nothing wrong?

Scenes with Captain Amelia
20 scenesI'm Captain Amelia, late of a few run-ins with the Procyon Armada. Nasty business, but I won't bore you with my scars. You've met my first officer, Mr. Arrow. Sterling, tough, dependable, honest, brave and true.
Please, Captain.
Oh, shut up, Arrow. You know I don't mean a word of it.
Dear Charlotte. To mule and blabber about a treasure map in front of this particular crew demonstrates a level of ineptitude that borders on the imbecilic. And I mean that is a very caring way.
"Imbecilic," did you say? Foolishness! I've got--
May I see the Map, please?
Here.
Hmm! Fascinating. [She then heads over to a cabinet and places the Map in a small chest.] Mr. Hawkins, in the future, you will address me as "Captain" or "Ma'am." Is that clear?
Mr. Hawkins?
Yes, ma'am.
That'll do. [closes the cabinet and locks it. Puts the key in her pocket.] Gentlemen, this must be kept under lock and key when not in use. And, Doctor, again - with the greatest possible respect - zip your howling screamer.
Captain, I assure you that--
Let me make this as... monosyllabic as possible. I... don't much care for this crew you hired. They're-- How did I describe them, Arrow? I said something rather good this morning before coffee.
"A ludicrous parcel of driveling galoots", ma'am.
There you go, poetry.
Now, see here--!
Doctor, I'd love to chat - tea, cake, the whole shebang - but I have a ship to launch, and you've got your outfit to buff up. Mr. Arrow, please escort these two neophytes down to the galley straightaway. Young Hawkins will be working for our cook, Mr. Silver.
W-uh, what? The cook?
Ah, 'tis a grand day for sailing, Cap'n. And look at you! You're as trim and as bonnie as a sloop with new sails and a fresh coat of paint!
You can keep that kind of flim-flammery for your spaceport floozies, Silver!
Spaceport floozies, spaceport floozies!
Aw, you cut me to the quick, Captain. I speaks nuttin' but me heart at all times-
Nuttin' but me heart!
Captain! That--oh, my goodness. That was--that was absolutely--that was the most--
Oh, tish-tosh. Actually, Doctor, your astronomical advice was most helpful.
Well, uh, uh--thank you. Thank you very much. Well, l have a lot of help to offer anatomically--amanamonically--uh-astronomically. [slaps himself on forehead]
All hands accounted for, Mr. Arrow? [He is nowhere to be seen] Mr Arrow?
I'm afraid Mr. Arrow has been lost. [Amelia stares at the hat in horror] His lifeline was not secured.
No, I checked them ALL! [Jim pushed the crew aside to reveal that Arrow's lifeline is missing.] I did. I checked them all. They were secure. I swear...
Did you actually aim for that?
You know, actually I did?
Mr. Hawkins, the map, if you please.
Morph?! MORPH, WHERE'S THE MAP?!
ARE YOU SERIOUS?! IT'S BACK ON THE SHIP?!
Stifle that blob and get low. [she sees the longboat flying past the sky.] We've got company.
We need a more defensible position. [Amelia gives Jim a gun] Mr. Hawkins, scout ahead.
Aye, Captain.
Gentlemen... we must stay together and... and... [groans]
And what? What?! [takes off glasses] We must stay together and what?!
Doctor, you have... wonderful eyes.
She's lost her mind!
Well, you gotta help her!
Dang it, Jim! I'm an astronomer, not a doctor! I mean, I am a doctor, but I'm not that kind of doctor! I have a doctorate, but it's not the same thing! You can't help people with a doctorate, you just sit there and you're useless!
All my life, I dreamed of an adventure like this. [sighs] I'm just sorry I couldn't have been... more helpful to you.
Oh, don't be daft. You've been very helpful. Truly.
I feel like such a useless weakling... [hands slip out of the rope he was tied with] ...with abnormally thin wrists! [to Grewnge, the pirate guarding them, while pretending to still be tied up] Excuse me, brutish pirate.
Yes, you. I have a question. Is it that your body is too massive for your teeny-tiny head... or is it that your head is too teeny-tiny for your big, fat body?!
I PUMMEL YOU GOOD!
Yes, I'm sure you will, but before you do, I have one more question. [pulls out a gun and points it at Grewnge's belly, smirks] Is this yours?
Doctor, head us back to the portal.
Aye, Captain.
Down on the right! THE RIGHT!
I KNOW, I KNOW! WILL YOU JUST LET ME DRIVE?!
Didn't I tell you the lad had greatness in him?!
Unorthodox, but ludicrously effective. I'd be proud to recommend you to the Interstellar Academy. They could do with a man like you.
Just wait until your mother hears about this! [quietly] Of course, we may downplay the life-threatening parts.
[Several days later, Jim and Doppler sit aboard a space ferry on their road to Crescentia, the giant spaceport from which they will depart on their journey. From a distance, the crescent-shaped port looks like a glowing silver of moon. But as they approach, Jim can see that the port is actually a many-layered network of docks, all crowded with spaceships. As the space ferry touches down, Jim shivers with emotion. Looking around the massive spaceport in confusion, he feels that anything can happen. He hurries down the gangplank, eager to reach the docks and whatever adventure awaits him there]
[At the bottom, Jim pauses and looks around breathlessly. Aliens of every shape and color, speaking hundreds of different languages, are scurrying this fashion and that, securing rigging, scraping hulls, and bartering for luck. He stops and watches in fascination as two spacers in heavy coats and stocking caps pull star matter out of a net. Even the air smells different here, Jim thinks. It is fresh and brisk and has a mysterious tang, unlike anything he's ever smelled on dreary old Montressor. Jim feels like shouting with joy]
Jim! [His voice cuts into his thoughts. Jim turns in time to see Doppler waddle down the gangplank, dressed in an outdated space suit and clanking with every step. He is so loaded down with gear that he can barely walk] Jim! Oh, Jim, wait for me!
Well, this should be a wonderful opportunity for the two of us to get to know one another. You know what they say. Familiarity breeds...uh, well, contempt. But in our case––––
Look, let's just find the ship. [He hurries over to two alien longshoremen to ask directions]
Second berth on your right!
It's the suit, isn't it? I should never have listened to that pushy two-headed saleswoman. One head said it fit, and the other said it was my color. I didn't know what to do. I get so flustered and––Oh! [His jaw drops. Before them a huge, three-tiered solar galleon gleams in the sunlight. It is the RLS Legacy, the ship Doppler has hired. It is the grandest ship either Jim or Doppler have either seen, and it is already bustling with activity]
Stow those casks forward! Heave together now!
Good morning, Captain! Everything ship-shape?
Ship-shape it is, sir. But I'm not the captain. The captain's aloft. [He points. Jim and Doppler look up toward the rigging and see a slim, catlike creature also in an officer's uniform. She swings down the ropes and lands gracefully on the deck]
Mr. Arrow, I've checked this miserable ship from stem to stern, and as usual, it's spot on. Can you get nothing wrong?
You flatter me, Captain.
Dr. Doppler, I presume?
Why, yes...I... [He stammers in surprise. He hasn't realized a female will be running the ship. Much less a feline female]
I'm Captain Amelia. Late of a few run-ins with the Procyon Armada. Nasty business, but I won't bore you with my scars. You've met my first officer, Mr. Arrow. [She gestures to the stony alien at her side] Sterling, tough, dependable, honest, brave and true.
Please, Captain.
Oh, shut up. You know I don't mean a word of it.
[As they speak, Jim gazes around the ship. Its polished, caramel-colored wooden decks run thousands of feet from stem to stern. Elaborate webs of rigging hang from the masts, and high above, the ship's bright flag snaps louder in the wind. Jim sighs with satisfaction. It is just the sort of ship he's always dreamed of sailing. For a moment, he imagines himself at the helm, steering the giant vessel through the Etherium. But suddenly, his thoughts are interrupted]
May I introduce you to Jim Hawkins? Jim, you see, is the boy who found the treasure m... [But before he can finish, Amelia claps a paw over his mouth]
Doctor, please! [She looks over her shoulder to make sure no one is listening] I'd like a word with you in my stateroom.
Doctor, to mewl and blabber about a treasure map in front of this particular crew demonstrates a level of ineptitude that borders on the imbecilic. And I mean that in a very caring way.
Imbecilic, did you say?
May I see the map, please?
Here.
Fascinating. Mr. Hawkins, in the future, you will address me as "Captain" or "ma'am." Is that clear?
Yes, ma'am.
That'll do. Gentlemen, this must be kept under lock and key when not in use. And Doctor, again, with the greatest possible respect, zip your howling screamer.
Captain, I assure you----
Let me make this as monosyllabic as possible. I don't much care for this crew you hired. They are... [She turns to her first mate] How did I describe them, Arrow? I said something rather good this morning before coffee.
A ludicrous parcel of driveling galoots, ma'am.
There you go---poetry!
Now see here!
Doctor, I'd love to chat----tea, cake, the whole shebang----but I have a ship to launch. [She glances at Doppler's space suit and **** an eyebrow] And you've got your outfit to buff up. Mr. Arrow, please escort these two neophytes down to the galley straightaway. Young Hawkins will be working for our cook, Mr. Silver. [She turns sharply and walks off]
Wait! What? The cook?
[But Amelia is already gone]
We're all clear, Captain!
Well, my friend. Are we ready to raise this creaking tub?
My pleasure, Captain. [to crew] All hands to stations! [Jim sees the crews away the R.L.S. Legacy] Smatly now!
Come on, you scurvy scum! I’ll race you!
Loose all solar sails!
Come on!
Heave up the braces! Brace up!
Mr. Zoff? Engage artificial gravity!
Poomp, poomp, poomp, poomph!
South by southwest, Mr. Turnbuckle? Heading 2-1-0-0.
Aye, Captain. 2-1-0-0.
Full speed, Mr. Arrow, if you please.
Take her away!
Brace yourself, Doctor.
"Brace yourself."
Whoa!
Upon my word, an Orcus Galacticus. [Take an Astronaut photographer camera to take a picture an Ocrus Galacticus] Smile!
Uh, Doctor, I'd stand clear--
Ahh, 'tis a grand day for sailing, Cap'n.
A-hem!
And, um, by the way. Isn't that your captain boy, aimlessly footling about in those shrouds?
Yep, it--oh... A momentary aberration, Cap'n, soon to be addressed. [To Jim] Jimbo! I've got two new friends I'd like you to meet. Say hello to Mr. Mop and Mrs. Bucket! [laughing]
Yippee.
Oh, ho, ho!
You having a little trouble there?
Oh, get away from me. [They laughing] Oh, Jimbo, if I could maneuver a skiff like that when I was your age, they'd be bowing in the streets when I walked by today! [slumps back against the boat's side]
Bowing in the streets!
Heh, I don't know, they weren't exactly singing my praises when I left home.
Heh. Whew.
But I'm gonna change all that.
Are you now? How so?
Uh, I got some plans. Gonna make people see me a little different.
Ooh. Sometimes - plans go astray.
Not this time.
Hmm.
Ah, thank you, Morphy.
So, uh, how'd that happen anyway?
You give up a few things...chasin' a dream.
Was it worth it?
Heh. [sighs] I'm hoping it is, Jimbo. I most surely am.
What the devil?
Good heavens. [took a telescope to Supernova] The star Pelusa... it's gone Supernova!
Evasive action, Mr. Turnbuckle!
Aye-aye, Captain.
All hands, fasten your lifelines!
Mr. Arrow, secure those sails!
Secure all sails! Reef them down, men!
Yeah, baby! Ba-boom! Ha-ha-ha-ha!
Silver!
Whoa. Thanks, lad.
Captain, the star!
It's... devolving into a... [Gasps] a BLACK HOLE!
WE'RE BEING PULLED IN!!
No you don't! You... [Trying to navigate out of the black hole] Blast these waves! They're so deucedly erratic!
No, Captain! They're not erratic at all! There'll be one more in precisely 47.2 seconds, followed by the biggest magilla of them all!
Of course! Brilliant, Doctor! We'll ride that last magilla out of here!
All sails secured, Captain!
Good man! Now release them immediately!
Aye, Captain. [to crew] You heard her, men! Unfurl those sails!
What?!
But we just finished!
Tying them down!
Make up your blooming minds! [Mr. Arrow climbs up a ladder in his ship]
Mr. Hawkins, make sure all lifelines are secured good and tight!
Aye-aye, Captain! [Mr. Arrow, Scroop and the crew all the lifelines secured solars in this ship, Jim tighten up lifelines 3 times a role] Lifelines secured, Captain!
Very good!
Captain, the last wave!! HERE IT COMES!!!
HOLD ON TO YOUR LIFELINES, GENTS! IT'S GONNA BE A BUMPY RIDE! [The R.L.S. Legacy falling down, Morph turns into the lifeline, Silver praying for Jim on each hand into a black hole, suddenly, it blast off like a rocket takes off the black hole]
Captain! That-- oh, my goodness. That was-that was absolutely-that was the most-
Oh, tish-tosh. Actually, Doctor, your astronomical advice was most helpful.
Well, uh, uh- thank you. Thank you very much. Well, I have a lot of help to offer anatomically-amanamonically-uh-astronomically. [slaps himself on forehead]
Well, I must congratulate you, Mr. Silver. It seems your cabin boy did a bang-up job with those lifelines.
All hands accounted for, Mr. Arrow? [He is nowhere to be seen] Mr. Arrow?
I'm afraid Mr. Arrow has been lost, I swear. [Amelia stares at the hat in horror] His lifeline was not secured. [The crew members glare at Jim, who was in charge of securing the lifelines. Jim turns to Amelia, who gives him an angrier yet sad look]
No, I checked them ALL! [Jim pushed the crew aside to reveal that Arrow's lifeline is missing] I did. I checked them all. They were secure. I swear...
Mr. Arrow was a... [clears throat] fine spacer. Finer than most of us could ever hope to be. But he knew the risks, as do we all. Resume your posts. We carry on. [walks away in the cabin, Jim looks shocked and runs away in the deck, as Silver and Morph comfort Jim, convincing him not to give up]
Pirates on my ship?! I'll see they all hang! [pass the gun to Doppler] Doctor, familiar with these?
Oh, I've seen the-- Well, I've read-- [shoots gun it break the light glass at Amelia] Uh, no. No. No, I'm not.
Mr. Hawkins, defended this with all life! [throw to Map to Jim, but attempt Morph catches his map]
Morph! Give me that!
Oh, you're taking all day about it. [Switches his cyborg arm with the gun and blaster the door destroyed by cabin, Jim missing] Oh! [Grabs Verne and throws him down at the galley] Stop them!
Thank you!
To the longboats, quickly!
MORPH, NO!
CHEW ON THIS, YA PUS-FILLED BOILS!
Did you actually aim for that?
You know, actually I did?
Oh, blast it! [The machinery] Doctor, when I say "now," shoot out the forward cable. I'll take this one.
Morph, here! Morph!
Morph! Morphy, come here. [whistling to Morph but know which one]
Morph, Morph. Bringing here. Morph, come here.
Come here. Come here, boy.
Morph, come over here.
Come to your dad.
Come here, boy--
Come on, Morph. Come on!
Morph, Morph, Morph, here!
Morphy?
Morph!
MORPH! [Morph into a rope coil, groans] Oh!
NOW!
Jim!
Parameters met. Hydraulics engine.
That's it! Come to papa!
Hold your fire! We'll lose the map!
Captain, laser ball at 12:00!
[The laser ball explode to Amelia injury on the side, the longboat landing falls down the Treasure Planet in the sky]
Ow.
Oh my goodness. [Put the glasses on] That was more fun than I ever want to have again.
That's not one of my... gossamers landings. Unh!
Captain!
Oh, don't fuss. Slight bruising. That's all. Cup of tea, and I'll be right as rain. [to Jim] Mr. Hawkins, the map, if you please.
Morph?! MORPH, WHERE'S THE MAP?!
ARE YOU SERIOUS?! IT'S BACK ON THE SHIP?!
Stifle that blob and get low. [she sees the longboat flying past the sky] We've got company. [Amelia looks up the longboat and turns to Jim] We need a more defensible position. [Amelia gives Jim a gun] Mr. Hawkins, scout ahead.
Aye, Captain.
Unh!
Steady, steady. Now, let's have a look at that.
Uh, pardon the mess, people, I yet. You'd think in a 100 years, I've would've dusted a little more often, but, you know and know. [picks up a chest game and throw down in the ground, he took a dress] When your batchin' it. [gasps in glee] You tend to, uh, let things go. [Delbert holding Amelia and put on the ground] Aw, isn't that sweet? I find old-fashioned romance so touching, don't you? How about drinks from the happy couple?
Ooh, uh, ooh. Uh, no. Ha-ha. [take off jacket] Thank you we don't drink and the... and the we're not a couple. [Amelia smiley emotion; clears throat] Look at the these markings. They're identical to the ones of the map. I suspect these are the hieroglyphic remnants of an ancient culture.
Mr. Hawkins, stop anyone who tries to approach. Ohh!
Yes, yes. Now listen to me. Stop giving orders for a few milliseconds, and lie still.
Very forceful, Doctor. Go on, say something else.
Hey, Look! There's some more of your buddies! [to crew] HEY FELLAS! WE'RE OVER HERE, FELLAS! [pirates aims and shoots at him] OH! UHH! OOH! OHH!
STOP WASTING YOUR FIRE! [approaches the pirates] HELLO, UP THERE! [but what Jim look around at Silver, to get pirate flag from the longboat] Jimbo? If, uh, it's all right with the captain. I'd like a short word with ya. No tricks, just a little palaver.
Come to bargain for the map, doubtless. Pestilential. [moans]
Captain.
That means...that he thinks we still have it.
Is okay, Doc. [Delbert sighs] Is all right.
Yeah, Doc! Jimmy knows exactly how to get out of this. It just-- It's just Jimmy has this knowledge of things. [whispered to Jim] Jim, any thoughts at all?
Without the map, we're dead. If we try to leave, we're dead. If we stay here.
We're dead! We're dead, we're dead, we're dead!
Well, I think that-that Jimmy could use a little quiet time. [Laughs nervously] So I'll just slip out the back door.
Back door?
Oh, yeah. I get this delightful breeze through here...which I think is important because ventilation among friends.
Whoa! What is all this stuff?
You mean the miles and miles of machinery that run through the entire course of the inside of this planet? Not a clue!
Hey, Doc! Doc! I think I found a way out of here!
No, no, Jim, wait. The captain ordered us to stay--
I'll be back.
CANNONBALL!
Woof.
Silver, you gave up?
Just a lifelong obsession, Jimbo. I'll get over it.
Aloha. Jimmy!
Hurry, people! We got exactly two minutes and thirty-four seconds till planet's destruction!
You're doing fine, Doctor. Now ease her over gently--gently!
We were better off on exploding planet!
Take us out of here, metal man!
Aye, Captain!
Captain, you dropped from the heavens in the nick of--
Save your claptrap for the judge, Silver!
Mizzen sail demobilized, Captain! Thrusters at only 30% of capacity.
30%? That means we're...We'll never clear the planet's explosion in time...
We gotta turn around.
What?
There's a portal back there. It can get us out of here!
Pardon me, Jim, but didn't that portal open onto a raging inferno?!
Yes, but I'm gonna change that. I'm gonna open a different door! [Jim starts to gather pieces to make a solar surfer]
Captain, really, I don't see how this is possible--
Listen to the boy!
One minute, twenty-nine seconds till planet's destruction!
What do you need, Jim?
Just some way to attach this.
All right. Stand back. Stand back, now. [He welds the pieces together to make a makeshift solar surfer] There you go.
There you go.
OK. Now, no matter what happens, keep the ship heading straight for that portal.
Fifty-eight seconds!
Well, you heard him! Get this blasted heap turned 'round!
Doctor, head us back to the portal.
Aye, Captain.
Go on the right! THE RIGHT!
I KNOW, I KNOW! WILL YOU JUST LET ME DRIVE?!
25 SECONDS!
No! No!
Come on, lad...
Seventeen seconds!
Seven, six, five, four, three, two--
[Right at the last second, Jim presses on the Montressor Spaceport, causing the portal to change as he and the ship fly through it, and the planet is collapsing and starts to explode. The portal explodes behind them]
Wow! Yeah!
Ah! Oh-ho-ho Jim! You done it, Jimmy! You done it, boy! [hi five to Jim, laughing] Didn't I tell you the lad had greatness in him?!
Unorthodox, but ludicrously effective. I'd be proud to recommend you to the Interstellar Academy. They could do with a man like you.
Just wait until your mother hears about this! [quietly] Of course, we may downplay the life-threatening parts.
Jimmy, that was...UNFORGETTABLE! I know you don't like touching but, get ready for a hug, big guy, 'cause I gotta hug ya! Ha, ha, ha, ha! [Jim finally getting hug to him] Hey, you hugged me back! Oh, I promised myself I wouldn't cry. [sobbing and hug to Jim, but he look at Silver but nowhere see it] Does anyone have a tissue?
