Hagrid [Hagrid gives Ron a bucket to catch the slugs he's regurgitating.] [as Ron regurgitates a slug]
Nothin' ta do until it stops, I'm afraid. Who was Ron tryna curse, anyway?
Malfoy. He called Hermione a- well, I'm not quite sure what it means.
[turns around]
He called me a Mudblood.
Hagrid [stunned]
He did not...!
It means "dirty blood". Mudblood's a really foul name for someone who is Muggle-born. Someone with non-magic parents. Someone like me. It's not a term one usually hears in civilized conversation.
Hagrid See, the thing is, Harry, there's some wizards, like the Malfoy family, who think they're better'n everyone else because they're what people call "pure-blood".
[appalled]
That's horrible!
[regurgitates another slug]
It's disgusting...
Hagrid An' it's codswallop to boot. "Dirty blood"! Why, there isn't a wizard alive today that's not half-blood or less. More to the point, they've yet t' think of a spell that our Hermione can't do. [to a tearful Hermione] Come here. [takes her hand kindly] Don't you think on it, Hermione. Don't you think on it for one minute... eh? [Hermione smiles]
It was Hagrid. Hagrid opened the Chamber of Secrets fifty years ago.
It can't be Hagrid. It just... can't be.
We don't even know this Tom Riddle. He sounds like a dirty rotten snitch to me.
The monster had killed somebody, Ron. What would any of us have done?
Look, Hagrid is our friend, so why don't we just go and ask him?
[Sarcastically]
That will be a cheerful visit. "Hello, Hagrid. Tell us, have you sent anything mad and hairy loose in the castle lately?"
Hagrid [Appears from behind]
Mad and hairy? Yer wouldn't be talkin' about me, now would ya?
[notices the canister of liquid Hagrid is carrying]
What's that you've got, Hagrid?
Hagrid Oh, it's, uh, flesh-eatin’ slug repellent. For the mandrakes, y’know. Now, according to Professor Sprout, they’ve still got a bit of growin’ up to do. But, once their acne’s been cleared up, we’ll be able to chop ‘em up and stew ‘em, and then we’ll get those people down at the hospital un-Petrified. In the meantime, though, you three... had best be lookin’ after yerselves, all right? [turns and walks back where he came from; Neville starts running from in the direction Hagrid’s going] Hello, Neville.
N Neville
Harry, I don't know who did it, but you'd better come! Come on!
Hagrid [Hagrid is making tea when he hears a knock on his door] [points a crossbow]
Who's there? [kicks the door open and points the crossbow outside] Hello? Hello?
[Harry and Ron remove the Invisibility Cloak]
What's that for?
Hagrid Oh, nothing. I was expecting. It doesn't matter. Come on in. I just made a pot of tea.
[Hagrid pours tea in a cup. However, his hands shake, causing the tea to spill over the cup and into the saucer.] [Noticing Hagrid's fear]
Hagrid, are you okay?
Hagrid I'm fine. I'm alright.
Did you hear about Hermione?
Hagrid Oh, yeah. I heard about that, alright.
Look, we have to ask you something. Do you know who's opened the Chamber of Secrets?
Hagrid [awkwardly]
What you have to understand about that is-- [there is a knock at the door, and Fang barks] Quick, under the cloak. Don't say a word and be quiet, both of you. [Harry and Ron go over to a corner and hide under the cloak; Hagrid opens the door to see Dumbledore standing there with another man] Oh! Professor Dumbledore, sir.
Good evening, Hagrid. I wonder, could we...?
Hagrid [beckons them]
Of course, come in, come in.
[to Harry, about the other man]
That's dad's boss, Cornelius Fudge, the Minister of Magic.
F Fudge
Bad business, Hagrid, very bad business. Had to come. Three attacks on Muggle-borns– things have gone far enough. The Ministry's got to act.
Hagrid But I never... well, you know I never...! Professor!
I want it understood, Cornelius, that Hagrid has my full confidence.
F Fudge
Albus, look, Hagrid's record is against him. I've got to take him.
Hagrid [alarmed]
Take me? Take me where?! Not Azkaban Prison?!
F Fudge
I'm afraid we have no choice, Hagrid.
[The door opens again, revealing Lucius Malfoy.]
Already here, Fudge? Good. [steps inside; Fang is heard growling]
Hagrid [angrily]
What are you doing here? Get out of my house!
Believe me, I take absolutely no pleasure being inside your... [looks around, coming close to the spot where Harry and Ron are hiding] You call this a house? Hm! [turns to Dumbledore] No, I simply called up the school and was told the headmaster was here.
And what exactly is it that you want with me?
The other governors and I have decided it's time for you to step aside. [holds up a roll of parchment] This is an order of suspension. You'll find all twelve signatures on it. I'm afraid we feel you've rather... lost your touch. And what with all these attacks, there'll be no Muggle-borns left at Hogwarts. [with thinly veiled sarcasm] I can only imagine what an awful loss that would be to the school.
Hagrid You can't take Professor Dumbledore away! Take him away and the Muggle-borns won't stand a chance! You mark my words, there'll be killings next!
Calm yourself, Hagrid. If the governors desire my removal, I will, of course, step aside. [walks up to Lucius] However... you will find that help will always be given at Hogwarts, to those who ask for it. [looks straight at Harry and Ron behind Lucius, letting them know that he can see them]
[after glancing behind him in confusion, seeing nothing]
Admirable sentiments. Shall we? [prepares to leave; Dumbledore gives Harry and Ron another meaningful look before following him out] Fudge.
F Fudge
Come, Hagrid. Well?
Hagrid [clears his throat]
If, um... If anybody was looking for some stuff, then all they'd have to do would be to follow the spiders. Yep, that would lead 'em right. That's all I have to say. Oh, and someone will need to feed Fang while I'm away. [leaves]
F Fudge
[to Fang, who growls at him]
Good boy. [leaves]
[Now alone, Harry and Ron remove the cloak of invisibility.]
Hagrid's right. With Dumbledore gone, there'll be an attack a day.
Look. [Sees a trail of spiders on Hagrid's window] Come on. [Grabs a lantern] Come on, Fang. [They all go out] Come on.
[Who has a serious phobia of spiders; his voice is on the edge of tears in this scene]
What?!
You heard what Hagrid said. "Follow the spiders."
They're heading to the Dark Forest! [Harry ignores him, starts to walk into the forest] Why spiders?! Why couldn't it be "follow the butterflies"?! [He follows Harry into the Forbidden Forest]
[last lines] [Great Hall; Dumbledore stands in his seat]
Before we begin our feast, let us applaud Professor Sprout and Madame Pomfrey whose Mandrake Juice has been successfully administered to all those who had been petrified. [everyone praises Madame Pomfrey and Professor Sprout, sans Malfoy and his gang, and most of the Slytherins; Malfoy scowls bitterly] Also, in light of recent events, as a school treat...all exams have been cancelled!
Hagrid [The students cheer wildly, except Hermione, who mouths "Oh, no" in disappointment; Just then the doors open as Hagrid walks in, to the surprise of Harry, Ron, and Hermione]
Sorry I'm late. The owl that delivered my release papers got all lost and confused. Some ruddy bird called Errol. [Ron has a look of embarrassment on his face; pause] I just want to say... that if it wasn't for you, Harry... you and Ron... and Hermione a’course...Well, I'd still be – you-know-where, so...I'd just like to say...thanks!
[smiling]
There's no Hogwarts without you, Hagrid.
[Everyone in the Great Hall celebrates, except Snape and a number of Slytherins. Crabbe tries to stand but Malfoy grabs him by the tie and pulls him down; Harry, Ron, and Hermione smile at each other as they join the celebration. Meanwhile, the camera moves back through a glass window and shows Hogwarts at night before the screen fades to black]
