Gilbertine
[Sixteen-month-old Bennington Austin Cotwell IV wriggles with pleasure as he hears the familiar words. Bennington is far too cute to be called by his complete name. Then everyone calls the lively little boy Baby Bink] [At that moment, Baby Bink is cuddled in a soft, terry-cloth sleeper sitting on the knee of his pretty, young nanny, Gilbertine. Her crisp white apron smells of laundry soap and starch. Her shiny, honey-blond hair smells of shampoo] [Outside the Cotwell mansion, birds sing in the fresh, summer morning. Baby Bink greets the day as he always does, by hearing Gilbertine read his favorite book. Baby Bink loves "Baby's Day Out". He can listen to that storybook again and again and again. His chubby hand reaches eagerly toward the book] [Gilbertine's green eyes drift off from the page, but she knows the story by heart]
You will see the many, many sights of the big city. [She stops reading and sighs heavily] Couldn't we read another book? We've read this one a hundred times.
Bink
[Baby Bink shakes his blond head and points to the well-worn picture book]
Boo-boo! Boo-boo! [That's what he called his favorite book]
Gilbertine
[Gilbertine looks around the luxurious nursery. In one corner stands a tall, antique bookshelf. The shelf is filled with enough expensive picture books to start a small library]
